Connecting with the Blog Buddies!

Ya'll are officially Blog Buddies (a la Ross Mathews)!

I got the cutest email from a reader named Christine who has three MACM fans at home. She sent pictures...

Aren't they the CUTEST thing ever?! LOVE it!

Okay, and I have a reader question for the Blog Buddies from Sabrina:
"I was [wondering] if you could help me out with some ideas for a graduation party. My cousin is graduating from high school in May and of course my Aunt asked if I could come up with some ideas for the party. I don't even know where to start. Her school colors are red, white, and blue. I just don't have a clue on what to do. Maybe you might have an idea or two?"
Can you help her out? I've never planned a graduation party so I'm probably even more clueless than Sabrina! :) If you can help Sabrina out, leave a comment!

well, one idea is to ask all her friends who will be attending the party to create a scrapbook page of something fun they've done together. once they arrive to the party, with the page of course, you (or aunt) can put the pages in an album and it can be given to her during the party. do a "photobooth" type thing.

OK I'm no where near that cute. I might have the same look on my face, but it's still not that cute. How can you beat the kind of awe you see in those faces. Better get to work on the next MACM!!!!

I have a son who is graduating this year and I found a great idea for the dessert at his party/open house (for family and friends - he will go out with his buddies afterwards).

Instead of making a big sheet cake, you make cupcakes (see, it's a great idea already) and frost them. Then for the deocrations you make custom "picks" by using 2x2 pictures of the graduate from birth up until grad day. The idea I saw took a younger picture and and older picture and "sandwiched" them with the toothpick in the middle. I can't wait to start choosing pictures and making my cupcake picks!

Hope this helps a little.
Oh yeah, my son's school colors and red and blue too, so I think I will airbrush the cupcakes (with the Wilton stuff you can buy at Michael's) instead of making different color frosting. Its easy and fast.
Good Luck with the party!

because the school colours are red white and blue, could you get some independance day, fourth of july kind of decorations that don't have the flag on them (like striped plates or packs of streamers).
I don't know how elaborate you want to go but balloon arches are really really easy to make, get 2 weights like a pot plant pot filled with plaster of paris or something similar & before it sets but after it's started to thicken, embed some of those screw things that have the big ring on the end (sorry getting really technical lol), then fasten a rope or thick string to one of the weights and tie helium balloons all over close together in a pattern, once you have enough balloons for the size arch you want you just tie the end to the 2nd weight and fill in the gap with the last of the balloons, the helium in the balloons will hold themselves up in an arch (to vary the height/angle of the arch just move the weights closer together or further apart.

Or how about you go old school and do kid's games, the best game i've ever played of musical chairs was at my friends 18th, expect some dirty tactics for that one. The teenage girls will roll their eyes but secretly they'll have more fun than they care to admit

Well, I have given a grad party. And I am getting ready to plan another.
I went way off last year-I used fushia and black as the colors. I found note cards at Michael's and stamped the info inside them. Adding a pink and black ribbon to the outside.
We had a big sign-in book for them. I made an initial-painted it-each guest signed that. We had spaghetti/salad/french bread. I made a big cake with the names of the grads. We opened presents and talked and that was about it.
I decorated everything that was sitting still,in fushia and black. I made a ribbon curtain-behind the honorees-seated at the table. Everyone loved that. I fixed the front door with feather boas in those colors. Bent pipe cleaners into the 2007 shape. And the girls initials. On the sign in table I had 2007 confetti, and tea lights.
Okay-I could go on and on. But I think that might help.

My 3 year old daughter is a huge MACM fan also! She (like her mother) can hardly wait for Monday. Last weekend we had a youtube "Kristina Card" marathon and then we made some cards together. My son is 1 and just giggles and dances with the music. MACM is a family event around here - thanks!
My mom did something similar to Jill's idea. She had each friend and relative bring just a picture of us together or their favorite picture of me. She put a super simple album together and as the guests arrived, they could stick their picture in the album and write a little bit about it. Good luck with the party!

Hi, I used to own a party shop - Graduation has become huge! Decorations are easy to find! A cute little table decoration/treat for the guests is a little plastic cup with a lid - fill it with M & M's in the school colors. Glue a square piece of cardstock in the main school color on the lid - tie some yarn in the other school color to the top to look like a tassel - cute grad cap decoration (I can send you a picture of one made up - if you it). I have made table centerpieces from 4" or 9" mylar balloons - these centerpieces sold really well - people loved them. These centerpieces can also have the graduates picture put into it. Small Balloon Graduates are not hard to make and look cute on the gift table. Arches are big for graduation - but to get them to look good you need to make sure your balloons are all the same size and evenly spaced. I have duct taped the string (I used fishing line) to the floor - then tied the balloons on the line (if you are interested I can give more and better details). Fishing Line also can be tied to a balloon filled with sand (I tape these sandbags to the floor also). Balloons can be moved on fishing line - so that you can make sure they are evenly spaced. If you want more info on the different kind of arches(air-filled or helium - balloon columns with arch on top), how to get them all the same size and spaced evenly let me know. Have fun decorating!

We had a joint grad party for our daughter and 2 of her friends in our back yard.We strung up a pinata for them to bat blind folded. We got out a twister game. Seniors are so nostalgic that they enjoyed reverting to childish games. With 3 sets of parents it was really fun. We grilled burgers, had prizes for the games. We rented a hot tub on wheels for after dinner. We made a video of them in the hot tub while they passed the float around like it was a mike and interviewed them like what they were doing after graduation, what school they would be attending etc. Then we rented movies that they watched for the rest of the night. It was a sleepover for those who wanted to in our basement. We live in Montana and we felt better about giving them someplace to hang out that was safe. Kids came and went all evening. so it was never the same group of kids. It was great fun! Kathy
