Today is...

National Splurge Day! If you had $500 to spend on anything--really, ANYTHING!--how would you spend it?

Leave a comment telling us how you'd spend your "money." I'll randomly pick a commentor and send them a $5 Amazon gift card (via email, of course). Not exactly $500, but you could get 5 songs from their MP3 Store... LOVE IT!

NOTE: I've closed the comments for this entry. I just draw a random winner and the details are in the next entry. Thanks for all your answers, everyone! :)

Hmmm...if I could splurge on ANYTHING it would probably be a new camera or Coach bag!!! I love your blog, Kristina! So much inspiration!!!

Ok I'll bite. Can't say no to MP3's! I have an online shopping cart at Anthropologie that totals just over $500. If I had the money, I would check out! Three tops and two pairs of shoes - YES! (Seriously, I'll take those MPS's though!).

:)

Patricia Markham:

I would probably get myself a new camera! My niece dumped a bucket of water over the one I have and now it's not working right anymore :( I will have to save up a bit to get a good one. With those $500 the saving part wouldn't be as long :)

oooh...splurge day?? And I'm going shopping this evening too!
I guess I would have to splurge on the 85mm prime lens for my camera. a little more than $500, but if I'm going to splurge, I might as well go all out right?

If I had $500 lying around, I'd pay off the new Nikon P80 I just put on my Dell card! ... and pay off my Target card with the leftovers.... I'm such a sinner. BTW- I'm addicted to your blog.... I heart you :)

Well, my first impulse would be to go do a shopping spree at my LSS, but what I've *really* been wanting is a Canon Digital Rebel...a bit more than $500, though! I'm finally getting into scrapbooking, and have been kinda nit-picking my pics lately. Not that a new camera would make me a great photographer, but it'd certainly help to be able to change f-stops and focus on my own!

And, as a side note, congrats on being featured for the Sketch Challenge at SCS! I remember when you made this card, and it's still a great one...love it! Gonna have to go make something now ;)

I would buy a swing for the deck. You know, for two or three people, with a cover over it. I desperately want one. I would sit outside every night on my swing!

splurge? hmmmmm? I guess I would go to a scrap retreat with the works!!! mani/pedi/massage. and tons of scrappage!!!

I would buy courtside seats or a courtside seat at the Air Canada Centre to see the Toronto Raptors play the Boston Celtics. The Raptors are my team and the Celtics are the NBA Champs with two of my favorite players, KG and Ray Allen. Talk about perfect. Sitting courtside is something I've always wanted to do and I hope someday I'll be able to.

I would splurge on a weekend trip to the Central California or southern California coast, where I would stay in a nice hotel, have a massage, walk on the beach, and splurge on a really nice dinner or two!

June 18, 2008 @ 10:57 AM

My first impulse is to spend it on myself. It's just to splurge right? I don't have to be responsible. I would get my hair done in a new style with all the product to go with it. I would get a facial, a manicure and a pedicure. Then I would have to go shopping for a new outfit or two. Of course, I would have to hit a Starbuck's along the way. If there was any leftover by then, I would treat myself to a nice meal out!

Thanks for indulging the fantasy!

If I had an extra $500 just sitting around, I'd splurge by placing a deposit on a cruise for my husband and I this fall!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:00 AM

Hmmmm, a flight to Hawaii....a hammock....a new watch since my favorite just broke....the list could go on and on.

June 18, 2008 @ 11:01 AM

i splurge and buy all of the nestabilities and i'd get an iced vanilla coffee from mickey d's with what was left LOL

June 18, 2008 @ 11:04 AM

Take my husband out to a nice dinner.
Send each of our kids $50.
Save the last $100 for our trip.

Susan from Colorado:

If I had $500.00 to spend, I would fill my tank with FUEL, and head to my daughter's home in Spanish Fork.
(I live in Western Colorado and this summer the visits are few and far between)
I would then take her with me on a shopping spree to our favorite scrapbooking stores and quilting stores!
Then we would take our treasures back to her house and play for days!
Of course we would go out to eat at fun restaurants because we wouldn't have time or desire to cook!
Thanks for the dream..

What a fun thing to think about! No question, I would splurge to buy tickets to go to NYC for a vacation with a girlfriend or if he's nice, my hubby. =) Though I'm not sure you could get 2 tickets for $500 anymore. ;)

It would be hard to choose between a trip to England to visit my dear friend whom I haven't seen in ten years, a trip to Hawaii or go to the Stampin Up Convention as a guest. I had a blast when I was a demonstrator, and that was before SU had their home in Riverton. :) i'd love to go on a tour of SU's facilities. My sister-in-law lives nearby, so I love to visit her when I go to Utah.

June 18, 2008 @ 11:14 AM

If I could splurge on anything, it would be a plane ticket to Prague to visit my daughter one extra time this year!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:16 AM
24

I really want a new lens for my D300- I think the 50mm f/1.4. And since that's only $325, I'd use the rest to get Rock Band for my Wii when it comes out on Sunday!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:16 AM

I would have to get myself a new computer. Mine seems to have an attitude problem and doesn't work right!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:19 AM

If I had $500 that I could just spend I would be selfish and buy LOTS of gadgets and card making things!!! I want one of the mini sewing machines among other things!

Well, $500? Funny you should ask. I would probably splurge and get a Dyson! Wait, thanks to Mr. Bush one of my dreams has come true. I went yesterday and bought it. I could hardly contain myself. I have been a vacuming fool all day today! It's the little things in life we should get excited about, right? Saying goodbye to dust bunnies is apparently one of my little things! :)

Oh my - well, my first inclination would be to put it on bills. However, since it is National Splurge Day, then of course it wouldn't be right to do that!! Soo... a splurge would mean... order a bunch of the new decor elements Stampin Up has just come out with, and then of course a trip to town to spend the rest of it on some new clothes, a pedicure, and a nice lunch with a friend!!

Thanks Kristina for giving away the Amazon card too - so generous of you! Love your site, and all your inspiration!!

Hmmmmmm.... $500 eh? I can't decide if I would buy lots of goodies from Stampin'Up... or maybe American Crafts.... or maybe a fabulous Coach purse. Yeah I think the purse for sure. I love crafts - but I LOOOOOooove Coach purses more! Oh wait - maybe a sewing machine!!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:35 AM

Only $500?! Sheesh...hehe!

I'd blow it all at the paper store in Japantown (San Francisco) that I'm driving over to today because they have some of the most spectacular Chiyogami papers there (but they're super spendy, spendy!) They do sell them for a 3x5 inch piece for $1.15 so I'd probably get one of each of their samples. :D

Ooh, a link to a similar store (been here to the one in the link but their selection is less than the one I like to visit.)

hmmm.....it would be hard to decide. to be honest...if i had a smaller amount i could pick...but when i have large amounts of money...i tend to hoard it! but...since it is national splurge day...I would get a full body massage (never had one....) and use the rest to put towards hotel reservations so i could take my little one to see sesame place. sad, huh? how we change the way we think when we become mothers....never thought it would happen to me! :)

thanks for your inspiration...this blog rocks!

Let's see, I have wishlists from PTI, Rubbernecker, CHF, and more...that would take out a chunk. Then the rest? I would also like to upgrade my digital camera, and if there was enough left, get my fancy film camera gone over so it works perfectly. Oh, and buy a scanner that can do negatives and slides.
I'm sure I have gone over the $500 now, but hey, a gal can dream, can't she?!

June 18, 2008 @ 11:50 AM

$500, lets see....I would get a pedicure/manicure, a massage, buy some stamping supplies, take my family out to dinner, buy some shoes of course and probably some clothes. That should take care of the $500 easily.

Not necessarily a splurge, but I would pay for the labor for someone to paint my living room and kitchen!! Just the thought of doing it myself makes me cringe. - Mandy

I would probably purchase the a LOT of new Stampin' Up! Décor Elements. And I'd probably get a good photo-editing program. Then I would start scrapbooking.

Paying down credit cards probably doesn't count does it. Well I need clothes and my kid needs clothes and a big boy bike with 4 (training wheels count as 2) wheels. Put I really just want to go crazy buying stamps.

I would spend most of it on a dishwasher - as we are buying a house & it doesn't have one! And I would save enough to buy some thickers in the poolside font... I have been DYING to get ahold of some!!!

I think if I had $500, I'd give $250 to my mom to buy clothes. I'm 14 and she always makes my lunches and I never get her anything for Mother's day or her birthday. Plus, she's always complaining about how her wardrobe needs an upgrade... but she's always putting everyone's needs ahead of her own!

I think I'd spend $100 on craft supplies, then the rest will probably go to my savings 'cause tuition is expensive these days! Especially if you wanna become a psychologist (which is what I want to be!).

June 18, 2008 @ 12:36 PM

I would totally buy the whole set of Nesties, I want those so bad. If I had money left over, it would go towards Copic's. =)

If I had an extra $500 today ready to spend on anything I wanted, I would........

1. buy a really good bluetooth for my iPhone $100 (I refuse to use my old one with my new phone)
2. buy a Costco iTunes gift card 60 songs for $50 (what a deal - 10 free songs!)
3. buy a Quickutz 12" Platform & 2-12" Dies $100 (love these things, but can't justify it right now)
4. buy my hubbie a bike so he can go bike riding with my daughter and I (no more excuses for him) $150.
5. take my daughter on a summer clothes shopping spree (she is 8 and now wants to pick out her own clothes, so far that consists of Hananah Montana, High School Musical, and Jonas Brothers gear) $100

That's the way I would make the $500 stretch for my entire family - so pick me :-)

Hi there!
Well, seeing as my hubby owns his own camera store, I do not need to spend it there, but I sure would love to take him on a little afternoon delight, starting with a pedi, mani and massage. Then a wonderful lunch ocean side, and a walk along Plymouth Beach, and then a nap by the oceans edge, and a romantic cruise supper. He deserves it! After all he puts up with from me!I think the ocean is so revitalizing, and soothing.
Thanks for letting us play Kristina!

Wow, now wouldn't that be a blessing to have $500.00 to splurge with. I think that I would buy season tickets to the waterpark for the family. Then with the little bit left I'd buy a new digital camera.

I would so buy some new clothes! I had a baby 9 months ago and still need to lose a little baby weight (I've lost most of it) but nothing fits me at all, but I hate to go buy a lot of stuff since I am hoping to lose the weight in the next 6 months.

I suppose I should say Crafting Supplies, but honestly, would love to do a mini-spa day with a couple of girlfriends as a surprise ... something that involves listening to piano music over dubbed with chirping birds. Thanks for the daydreaming break.

I'd splurge on a new handbag - not sure which designer though - and probably some new clothes with anything that's left over. :) Fun to think about...it's like dreaming about what you would do if you won the lottery!

I would go to my nearest scrapbook store and buy half of my extensive wish list. Then I'd talk to my SU! demonstrator and buy what I could (probably only a quarter) of what's on my wish list. I'd use the last bit to hire a babysitter so I could play with my new purchases all by myself with noooo interruption!

I love your blog!!!! I've learned so many tidbits from you!

*If* I had $500 to splurge, it would either be on going to a friend's wedding, or added to the DSLR fund. =) But I really didn't need to know that there is a National Splurge Day! ;-)

Aren't you so sweet?! It wouldn't buy a plane ticket home, but I might give my sister the money towards a ticket so she could come visit me after our baby is born. That would be great! But I'd insist on her filling her suitcase with stamp supplies!

Roxanne:

I work full time at a manufacturing company, I'm a full time Mom, and work part time with Stampin Up as a demonstrator. I've been wanting to stay home with my kids for awhile now but she can't afford it. So if I had $500.00 I would use it in a way that would allow me to quit my job and be a stay home Mom. Please pray that the Lord would open doors for me to stay home.

I would buy the great chandeleir I saw today for my new house! I wonder if my hubby might think Splurge Day is for real- we wouldn't want to be unpatriotic (or something)

June 18, 2008 @ 3:35 PM

If I had 500.00 dollars, I would spend it on my daughters wedding. Or even give it to her to spend her honeymoon. Or better yet she is expecting in Nov., I would give it to her to spend on my new grandchild.

Ooooh... a digital Rebel camera and a quality lens for it! I have the 35mm version, but a basic lens.

Then again, I might finally get rid of our ancient pedestal bathtub upstairs and put in a spa-tub with jets for one AWESOME bubble bath. :-D

Ginny in IL:

First I would get one of the flip video cameras. It sounds perfect for what I would use it for. Next I would look into getting a die cutter. I think I am leaning towards a Cuttlebug. Thoughts anyone? Then if there is anything left, I would get some embossing folders and dies. Thanks!

I would splurge on redecorating our bedroom. It has been untouched since we moved into the house and I would really like to get rid of the cream walls with a rose border...ick.

I would split it between stamps and fabric. BTW you have no idea how much money I have spent because of you. Seriously you should get commission on the stuff you talk about!

Oh WOW 500...um... there are so many things I would want. But this would be my dream

200 on card making supplies (SU new cattie, can't wait)
200 on these jeans I've had my eye on for weeks but can't justify sending that much on jeans

100 on pampering myself and my hubby at the spa,a couples spa day just what we need

That's how I would spend 500 if I had it to spend on ANYTHING! Now I am going to hope that this dream becomes a reality!!!

Hi Kristina, Wow ... splurging (which I do on a regular basis ... ha ha). But with $500 I think I'd buy a bunch more Nestabilities... I really enjoy your colour challenges and your MACMs although I haven't actually submitted a challenge. Thanks for posting the randoms and your fav's... Happy Celebrating !! Karen

Lisa K:

With the $500 I would go on a really nice date night complete with steak AND lobster! ;) Go see a movie, get a hotel room. (NO -- not for that - so I could sleep in without the kids waking me up at 6:15!) Then with the leftover I would spend it on stamps, and some scrapbook kit clubs! Thanks for letting a girl dream! absolutely 100% hands down I would spend it all on Orla Kiely items...purses, wallets, clothes...as much as I could get for the money. She is by far my favorite designer and it would be so fun to buy up some of her pieces

I'd take all my girlfriends out to dinner or throw a big party and invite them all over for the best grown up slumber party of our lives!

And then a SU shopping spree with the rest!

Carrie:

Since I am new to your blog and have discovered Stampin' Up!, I think I could easily find $500 bucks worth of SU stuff I would love. I would say $300 for stamps and $200 for punches and inks.

i'd spend $500 on something that would bring enjoyment to the entire family--a trip to WI to see family at the family lake house. we live 15 hours away, and $500 would pay for the gas. if we could get there, the family would take care of us the rest of the time!

people are here today and gone tomorrow, so making time to be with them is important.

Well we are going to Disney World next week and taking our niece. I would spend it on her so she could stay a night in Cinderella's Castle. It would be a truly magical moment.

I would start with a Wacomm tablet & pen and if I had anything left I'd put it towards a Kindle!

:)

Fun question!

I would get some custom-fit jeans. Why is it so hard to find jeans that fit just right? Mine never do. I hate that a lot of companies are adding stretch to denim. I don't want stretchy jeans!

My 5-year old Palm Pilot is getting flaky. I would invest in a new PDA (iPhone perhaps).

If there's anything left over, I would buy a Cuttlebug and some Nestabilities.

Martha:

Seriously? I would buy one of thosse terrific desk/shelving/storage units for my "craft room." Right now everything has to stay in the closet, so I am constantly hauling stuff out and packing it up again.

I had my eye on a Starbuck's coffee barista machine that was a gorgeous burnt orange colour. I think it was around 3 or 5 hundred dollars. Anything left over would go toward some singing lessons. I've always wished I could faithfully carry a tune.

Melissa:

That's so sweet of you Kristina! If I had $500 I'd spend it on organization for my craft space! I really need some organizing stuff because I don't have much space at all in the corner of my bedroom.

The beautiful green tourmaline pendant and coordinating chain I saw at our local jewlery store would be top on MY splurge list!

Girl, if I had $500 to spend any way I wish, I think I would use it to do something fun with my family! I'd buy annual passes to Disneyland for all of us!

How fun! Too bad someone can't REALLY give me the $500!!!

Have a great day!

National splurge day? We don't have that up north in Canada, eh...But I could send a letter to our parliament, maybe they'd join in, what do you think?
Anyway, living in Montreal, we are used to doing thing our way (us french speaking folks) so, I'll play along anyway, my 500$ would be spent thusly: I'd buy shoes, scrapbooking stuff and share it with my friends and family. Whew! 500$ goes fast!
Keep up the good work Kristina, I love and visit your blog every day (sometimes more...!)

Save it until August and place my SU order out of the new cattie!!! But, a couple of songs from Amazon would be awesome, too...I need recommendations from you! After MACM, I have downloaded: Mika, Panic at the Disco and the Pipettes. Thanks!!!

CYNTHIA ANDERSON:

I would have to say buy my $300.00 dollars worth of stampin up so I can stay a demo! I have to do it before the last day of the month, and since I have been a hobby demo, after about nine months....I am pushing my luck now! Then the other $200.00 I would have to save for convention! What a geek I am.....it is just like crack!

I would use the $500 to get my craft space organized. A new desk would be amazing, as my current desk is very small. And the more storage, the more places to hide all my craft supplies from my husband. You know, so he doesn't see just how much stuff I really do buy! hee hee

June 18, 2008 @ 7:22 PM

I would go on a clothing shopping spree, because I feel like all my clothes are out of date!
