I remember the teacher sending home a class list so everyone would get a Valentine. We made "mailboxes" out of paper bags and decorated them with hearts and then we brought our Valentines home in the bag. It was sweet!
I remember real parties at school. And making some sort of card holder for all those cards the other kids gave you. And conversation hearts didn't come with as many saying as they do now. It was just the basics back then.
Not much, except maybe painting hearts and exchanging cards with my friends.
I remember Teddy Montague giving me my first kiss in Kindergarten. We were gonna get married and have like 1,000 kids!
I remember loving the Valentine's party at school, decorating my own 'mailbox', delivering cards to my friends and looking at all of the cards they gave to me...maybe this is where my love for cards came from! :)
I remember DECORATING whatever it was (lunch bag, shoe box, manila envelope) that would hold our Valentines.....I think I enjoyed the decorating part more than I cared about actually receiving the Valentine's themselves!!
Let see I remember bringing in a shoe box to decorate and cut a slit in the top to make a card holder and everyone would close there eyes as each person put the valentines in boxes because back then you didn't have to give everyone a valentine. I also remember the sweethearts EVERY valentines. I stock up on them now. LOVE THEM!!!!
I think Valentine's Day is celebrated different here in Australia. We didn't hand out Valentine's as kids, it was more a grown up holiday. My memories are of my father sending my mother huge bunches of roses.
Oooooh what a fun giveaway! I remember bringing my bag of valentines to school so excited to pass them out to my classmates and anxious to see what I got in return.....ahhhhh, memories! Thanks for the smile!

My best memory was when I was 11. I entered a Valentine raffle contest at Hallmark and won a huge stuffed animal Panda Bear with a red bow around it's neck on Valentine's Day. Good Times!

I remember being in a quandry as to who I should give Valentine's cards to, just my friends or to everyone in the class, and if I just gave to my friends, wouldn't that make the ones who didn't get cards feel sad.
Sigh...
I remember going to the store and picking out the box of valentine's -- spending lots of time signing my name to each one -- and you had to watch which one you gave to a "boy" cause you didn't want it to be mushy --and then taking them to school and then bringing home a decorated shoe box full of cards. What fun opening each little envelope! Did I say I like paper?! Happy Hearts Day to you!
I too loved decorating the "mailbox" each year and started planning my themem for it weeks in advance!
I remember getting my first valentine from a secret admirer in primary school ... a handdrawn card, but I never did find out who sent it.
I remember making sugar cookies with my family and then taking them around to our neighborhood friends!
I remember loving those little mail boxes we made as kids out of shoeboxes. My Kinder teacher set up an entire post office for us, where everything was stamped and delivered and put in bags to be put in individual mailboxes. Ah... the good old days!
I remember worrying about 'what if' I didn't get any ???? Maybe that was a good thing bc it made me sensitive to make a list of EVERYONE in my class to ensure they ALL got one......I'm STILL a list-maker to this day :) Old habits die hard...but I think this is a good one :) (wink)
PS---pick me! pick me! lol :)
Oh my gosh!!! I love this little package of goodies!
I clearly remember Valentine's Day when I was in the 6th grade. We all had to make our valentine's bag/box for our desk. Even though we had to have Valentine's for each classmate, it was at that age where I thought it was cool when certain boys dropped off Valentine's in my box. It was fun to collect all that candy and cards!
In elementary school we would bring in a shoebox and decorate it with construction paper. Then each student was able to deliver their valentines into the mailboxes. It was the beginning of papercrafting for me!;)
Oh, how cute!
I remember making a special mailbox to bring to the Valentine's Day party and the fact that you HAD to give a valentine to everyone in the class. However, you would pick out the BEST ones for your favorite people. That, and you always hoped that you didn't have the same valentines as everyone else did because you wanted to have the best ones.
I remember passing out Valentine's to everyone in class and always making one extra special for the crush i had that year. I also remember making great and funny messages out of sweethearts because I hated eating them haha
I remember making the decorated bags that everyone put your valentines in for class. They were made out of paper lunch bags and then usually decorated with red and pink construction paper hearts and paper doilie hearts. Then they were taped to the ledge underneath the chalkboard all around the room. Thanks for helping me recall simpler times. It feels like just yesterday in one sense, and like sooooo long ago in another. Happy Valentine's Day!
I would have to say decorating a shoe box to collect the Valentines at school! No surprise I still like papercrafting!
I don't remember a whole lot... Valentines day is not so huge in Australia. But we used to order roses for our friends at school and then every now and then you'd get an extra one from an annonymous sender... "Oooooow" screamed all the girls... "who is it"!!!
Hi Kristina!
WOW this brought me back to when I was 6 years old. My fondest memory was being in first grade and preparing for the Valentine's Day swap....must have been my first taste of card swapping huh!LOL! Anyway we all had to bring in a shoe box, paper doilies and any other COOL things like ribbon and buttons and all the things I still play with today, to decorate our box, that would collect all those awesome valentines! I can still remember what it felt like to compete to have the prettiest box LOL, that's scary! Anyway, I do treasure that memory and have to chuckle to think things have not changed much in 50 years! Happy Valentine's Day prelude! ~Donna
Kristina - I made the card from your monthly project tonight and I love it! I'll be demoing it at my downline meeting and have precut it for the make & takes too...thanks for taking the time to put all the instructions together. "You're Absolutely Fabulous!"
I remember always wanting that one special valentine from that certain someone in grade school. A lot of time was spent decorating the covered shoebox with the slit on top... the slit had to be just right, not to big and not too small.....
you are SO generous. I love valentines and everything pink. Actually my birthday is a few days from Valentine's Day. My best memory is of a Valentine's themed Birthday party that my mom planned. She made little Valentine heart boxes for everyone, we decorated hearts, drank pink juice, ate pink jube jubes...SO MUCH FUN!!! My mom is the best!
I remember decorating shoeboxes with colorful paper and cutting a slot in the top. The teacher would send home a list names so each child could bring a valentine for each classmate. Choosing the package of valentines was fun. There was always a special, much larger valentine for the teacher.
Thanks,
Beatrice
What a pretty little package of eye candy!
My mom and aunt used to have valentine parties for my cousin and me when we were little. My aunt made pink and red popcorn balls and we exchanged gifts. My cousin passed away suddenly two days before Valentine's Day when I was ten and she was fourteen. So my memories of Valentine's Day are mostly sad, as the parties stopped and pretty much any mention of the holiday became non-existent. But this is the time of year that I think of her the most. And I kind of make a big deal out of Valentine's Day with my five-year old son.
What a yummy giveaway! :)
As a child I remember decorating cereal boxes at school for all the valentine's cards from my classmates. I also remember it being such a big deal what characters were on the valentine's I was giving out...for some reason one that sticks in my mind was the Popples. Anyone remember these? (Just had a little trip down memory lane.) ;)
I remember waking up on Valentine's morning, and my mom would have a sweet card and candy waiting for my brother and I at our seats at the breakfast table. So sweet!
I remember waking up in the morning to get ready for school. I would go down to the kitchen for breakfast and there would have be a small gift and a love note from my mom who would have already left for work and when I was young enough to have my lunch made I'd find another love note. Still to this day I get a little treat and card even though I am all grown up and live on the other side of the Province heehee I think it's cute! I love my mom:-)
Sad to say, but I really don't remember too much about Valentine's as a kid. Unless you count giving out cards in school (you gave them to the teacher and she put them in everyone's mailbox so you didn't know who gave them to you!)
I remember being so excited to pick out valentine cards at the store and choosing which card to give each classmate. I always felt like there was a perfect card for each person and always gave it a lot of thought! Oh, and I loved to decorate the large Valentine envelopes that would hang from our desks and collect all the cards! Those were the days!!
Hi Kristina. Thanks for the oportunity :) In Australia I don't think valentines day is as widely celebrated as in the US, but the one thing I can remember is receiving a massive card from my very first boyfriend at 13. I can still remember it....in fact, I think I still have it! lol....
I remember making valentine boxes at school. On Valentines Day, we would pass out all of our Valentines by putting them in each child's decorated box - and then we would party.
Remembering Valentine's Day as a child, well I can remember at school a few girls received a single red rose from their boyfriends and the odd card was given and received. But I can not recall myself getting involved much in the day.
I remember Valentine's Day in first grade, when an older sister of a boy in my class knocked on the door to deliver a Valentine gift that had been forgotten at home. It was a pretty blue head band. She handed it to her brother and he paraded in front of the classroom and dropped it off on my desk! I still have it, 40 years later although sadly I can no longer remember his name!!
I remember waking up on Valentine's Day morning to find our mom had made us valentines (usually with paper doilies and red construction paper) and left them on our nightstands with a little box of conversation hearts.
Oh, I remember saving a shoe box for February each year and then cutting the slot in the top and decorating it. Then picking out the Valentine's cards with my mom at the store or making them out of lace doilies. I loved the sentiments on the conversation hearts, but I didn't like the taste back then -- kinda chalky. I do like them now! LOL. I really liked the heart-shaped red-hots. And we always gave a miniature box of Whitman or Russell Stover chocolates to the teacher.
I remember sitting in the classroom with my friends counting how many of valentine cards we received from the boys! I also remember that my grandma always took us to the store to buy that little red box filled with valentines cards....good times!!
I remember everyone making a box in class to hold all our valentines. I remember signing each one of my store-bought valentines. I remember having a big knot in the pit of my stomach the day we all opened our boxes to look at the valentines we had received. I had an irrational fear that my box would be empty. Thankfully it was stuffed to the brim just like all my class mates boxes.
Love your blog!
Gosh, that was so long ago! I remember the class Valentine parties and having to give a Valentine to everyone in the class which we put in their little decorated shoe boxes.
Conversation hearts...picking out valentines for school...giving two to the current crush as a "subtle" hint, only to deny it later when his friends ask about it. Good times! :)
I remember making my own valentines for everyone in my class. During our party we were able to hand out the cards to each person individually. It was always a lot of fun!
My mother always made a big deal about Valentine's Day for us kids. She would set the table with special decorations, and have special treats for us. I tried to do the same for my kids when they were little.
I remember my Mom taking us on a valentine's day picnic each year, usually in the snow with sledding and hot chocolate.
I remember making a paper container and decorating it with our names on it to hold all of our Valentines :-) That was one of my favorite memories each year.
Valentine's Day has always been special. It marks my parents Wedding Anniversary. My parents were 15 years old when the met and had me. They are still together after all these years, and this year they will be celebrating 39 years of marriage...OMG that means I am turning 39... Anyway, it means true, unconditional love to me!
I recall a classroom Valentine's Day party where we had decorated our own "mailboxes" w/ supplies from the art teacher. For some odd reason, that year I decided to decorate my box w/ pieces of shag carpeting!!!! I mean, it was the 1970's but man, I sure hope I have better taste now! Thanks for the laughs!!!
~Lana B~qycv4f
I remember making homemade valentines out of heart-shaped doilies and glitter. Is is any wonder that I am still making handmade cards?!
mmm...lets see... wishing someone would ask me to be their Valentine!!! hahaha. Now I've got my gorgeous Hubby to be my Valentine ALL the time.
Sarah
xx
I remember making a Valentine box every year. This one year I made a bed for my favorite bear and the headboard had the slit where my valentine cards were collected. I guess I liked being crafty as a kid, too.
I can remember passing out all the little Valentine's in class and not being able to wait to look at all those that were left in my box. I also remember that one year, my parents had flowers delivered to school for me. I was pretty hot stuff walking back from the school office with my flowers!
Oh I need to win something as my child is driving me batty! How I need to craft to de-stress.
My mom and dad's wedding anniversary is on Valentine's Day so I remember my mom baking a cake from scratch on that day. I guess the thought of the whole family looking forward to that day is special to me and my family :o)
I remember that I loved to choose those packets of Valentines cards at the store.
I loved the colours and shapes of the cards. I just realized that maybe where my love of all things paper began!
I have two older sisters and I remember the night before Valentines we would all sit at the dining room table addressing our envelopes for the next day at school. We too had decorated shoeboxes and cut a slit to receive all those cards. What a carefree time of life that was.
The best part of Valentine's Day for me was getting to pick out my own special little box of valentine cards at the grocery store. I loved hemming and hawing over every style, hoping to find just the right ones. It was pure bliss for my 7, 8 and 9 year old self. Really, now that I'm a first grade teacher I still love it. It's my favorite holiday ever!
I remember in kindergarten spending days and days making cards only to find out that everyone else bought their cards. I felt like an outcast because my cards didn't have disney princesses or superheros on them.
I remember the class parties for Valentine's Day where everyone would go around giving out Valentine's Day cards. They were so fun to get and open! One year (4th grade) we each made and decorated little Valentine card mailboxes out of milk cartons - it was the kind of craftiness that was right up my alley.
I remember making my little Valentine's boxes for school and writing out my Valentine's. We also did rose exchanges in my later school years.
In first grade, I remember receiving a red heart box that used to be full of chocolates with a beautiful white rose on there that one of the kids brought for an exchange. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have that little box with a pretty, pretty rose. I loved that little box and kept all my precious items in there.
Great bunch of goodies!
What I remember about Valentine's day is decorating paper bags to tape to our desks to collect our valentine's in, and then going around the classroom and handing them out. I did this with every teacher in my school from Kindergarten to grade six!
I loved the Valentine's party. We would address all the cards and be really careful to not write love because that was yucky! Then we traded them at school and brought a big bag of cards home. That was fun!
I remember handing out those cheesy Valentine's cards to my classmates. We would have a crafty envelope taped to the front of our desks and we would each take turns putting the Valentine's into each other's envelopes. I especially remember the "I Choo-Choose You" one.
Oh WOWZA what a giveaway! YUMMY goodies!!
Val Day...I remember elementary school, we'd decorate bags and hang then on the wall and then kids would fill them with little valentines and/or candy.
That would be the Valentine box decorating contest of 1978. Everybody used shoe boxes and I lovingly decorated mine with paper doilies and lace trim. It was a big hit and everyone was oohing and ahhing over my little Valentine box until Gary Jester came in with this giant shipping box with, if memory serves correctly, an entire city made out of candy on top. A tough lesson learned in the 3rd grade about how fickle fame can be - HA!
I remember my mother buying valentines cards for me and my sister and three brothers and we would siit around the table writing our names on te back and putting them in bags that we decorated at school.
WHAT A GREAT GIVEAWAY!
My fondest mamories of Valentines Day past... My Dad was always my valentine. Every Valentines day, my dad came home with gifts for my Mother, sisters and me! It was so sweet now that i think about it. I am sure he would still prefer to be my Valentine... sorry Dad, i have moved on. :) Still love him, just have another man in my life haha.
I remember making a box for my Valentines from elementary school out of a cigar box covered in colored tissue. And opening those cute little cards and hoping they would be the ones with candy attached :)
I loved the parties at school- especially if there were cupcakes!
Thanks for the chance at such great blog candy!
Making little valentines and picking out candy for my friends in Sunday School was always fun.
I remember decorating the "mailbox" you made for your cards. You brought in a shoebox from home and then the art teacher gave you red, white and pink construction paper. You folded your paper and drew half of a heart on the fold, then cut it out and unfolded the paper to reveal a perfectly symmetrical heart! You also got tissue paper - which you cut into little squares and wrapped around the eraser end of your pencil - like a cupcake wrapper. Then you glued these little paper "cups" to your box for a very 3-D effect. I remember the glue we used, too - that brown stuff that looked like syrup with the red rubber top.
I remember in the 5th grade it was my first time giving out Valentine cards, I could barely sleep that night.
i remember writing all of my friends names on those little white envelopes and being thrilled about placing one in each and every "mailbox"
What fun!
g
Fun question and fabulous giveaway! I remember a couple of things - passing out my Valentines to my classmates by sticking them in their decorated "envelopes" taped to their desks, and Valentine's Day dinners with the family, where my mom always left my sister, dad and I a box of chocolates on our plates!
I remember making valentine boxes covered in construction paper and doilies. Then we all exchanged our valentines by putting them in each others boxes. It was always so much fun.
For Valentine's Day as a child...I remember decorating shoeboxes and taking them to school for valentine swaps...and being the only girl in my class who loved to give STAR WARS Valentines!! I remember lots and LOTS of candy and wondering why the conversation hearts were so popular when they didn't taste as good as Sweettarts!?!?!
Thanks for your Virtual Card Club...I love it!!
Ah... Valentine's day... When I was 10 I brought little construction-paper hearts to a winter sledding day only to realize I was one short. (How horrifying!) I didn't want the odd girl out to feel bad, so I tried to make sure she didn't see me distributing my valentines. I won't embarrass myself with all the shenanigans I went through!
Oh how fun! I was just talking with a friend about our olden days! I loved the shoe boxes we used to decorate and then pass around little valentines! I loved it! My mom always made me get them at the last minute - guess I learned my procrastination skills young!
My favorite Valentines Day as a kid was when we were living overseas in Holland,I was the new kid..one of a ton of moves (if I told u your head would spin...but to put it in perspective, i had 5 different kindergarten teachers, in 5 countries!!) and my mom came to our class (grade 1)these big red velvet cupcakes with huge dollaps (sp?!) of red icing and conversation hearts all over them...and then taught the kids how in the states and canada we had a tradition to alter shoe boxes and give out Valentines...the kids thought it was soooooooo cool, and I was one popular kid... the next year we were still in holland (WOW!! 2 grades in one country! LOL) and I got a ton of Valentines in my box thanking me and my mom for starting a school tradition!!
hey I can remember paper doilies and making some type of container to hold all the valentines that were not from the heart cause your mom made you make one to all the kids in class....so you never new which one was extra special...so not fair...happy crafting :)
I remember my first Valentine's Day with a real boyfriend. He was so sweet! I got a card, flowers, chocolates and perfume--all bought and paid for with his own money. He was so nervous because he wasn't sure what I'd think. Of course, even though I'm allergic to perfume, I loved everything. we went out for dinner and a movie that night and I just remember being so blissfully happy. Ahh, teenage love!
Those look sooo yummy! You are so generous!
When I was in 1st grade, I was sick on Valentine's Day, so I wasn't able to go to school. When I returned back to school I had a folder FULL of cards from the class, so I hadn't really missed out on much. There was a boy in the class that I liked, and I guess he really liked me too because he gave me a teddy bear shaped jewerly pin that had a heart on it. It's such a cute memory!
hi kristina,
my! what a great blog candy. eversince I discover blogs last year, I became an avid follower of your blog. Just love your color challenge as well as seeing beautiful entries..Hoping one day, I will be able to join...
during my childhood days, I remember, every 1st week of February, our teachers would let us make a valentines card to give to our parents or anyone you like. All valentines card will be sealed in plastic and displayed in the display board. We can get our cards two days before valentines day to give it.
one of my most memorable valentine's memories is one where my Dad came home with valentine's Day cards for all of us...now my Dad isn't a card giver...never ever does he do that..so that day it was so extra special!!
I love, love, love your stuff...you are so creative thanks for all the inspiration!
My most vivid childhood memory about Valentines Day is the year my mom and I hand made all my valentines. We used white doilies and glued construction paper hearts to the centers (all cut by hand of course back in the day) and added shiny heart stickers. Those things took us so long to make.
My mom would always buy us little gifts and cut everything in to hearts. I always so surprised that she was so into it. Those little Valentine's day touches like pink napkins or a heart note in our lunches really made the day special. This giveaway is so awesome. Have a great night!
I loved taking my valentines into school and getting to share with the class.
My teacher always made Valentine's Day extra special during my grade school years. We would start getting ready for a big Valentine's Day party weeks in advance. We'd all give each other Valentine's cards that we put into a huge mailbox we had made until Valentine's Day arrived. We would pull open the box spilling hundreds of cards all over the floor and then specially designated "mailmen" would deliver the cards to the correct person's desk. We would also have contest and other special activities. It was a great way to break those mid-winter doldrums.
What a great givaway! Well since I didn't go to school here in the US, I don't really have the same memories of Valentine's Day. Don't get me wrong, we do celebrate it, but my teacher never made me do cards for all my classmates... jejejejeje
I asked my hubby what he remembered and he said oh, just buying a box of cards for my classmates just because my teachers said so. Wasn't he the romantic one? huh?
I remember being soooo excited to open my Valentine's box at school to see all of the Valentines my friends gave me.
Those giant shoebox "mailboxes" that we used to make and writing out all the valentines for the class. I used to lay them all out and pick the prettyest ones for the people I liked best!
Very cool prize! Thanks for the chance to win!
The first thing I remember when I think of Valentine's Day as a kid is a favorite book of mine back then... It was called "Things to Make and Do for Valentine's Day", by Tomie de Paola. I treasured that book!
It seems to me that the best memory I have of Valentine's Day was the projects we created in school to put our Valentine's in. I loved that part of Valentine's!
I remember buying a box of like 35 2x3 cards we had to give one to each of the other kids in class. We each got up and walked by every desk to drop one off.
Thanks for the memory and the chance to win!
I remember making mailboxes out of paper plates for valentines from my classmates. I remember taking soooo much time to make my mailbox "just right".
Valentines day was all about the parties and school and the penny valentines. It was fun to exchange those cute little cards with my classmates. And the little boxes of candy hearts with sayings. Thanks for the chance to get my hands on some of these beautiful goodies.
the thing i remember most is the party at school. it was always fun to decorate the brown paper bag and even more fun opening all of the valentines.
When we came home from school at lumchtime my mom always had spaghetti and a red drink and little heart shaped cakes, little pots of heart candy and balloons tied to our chairs. She always went out of her way to make it special. At school we would decorate a box and we would all give each other valentines. Happy memories.
I remember going to school and thinking if the guy I liked was going to say something to me. Also feeling nervous all day long! Kind of funny when I think about it now =)
Mmmmmm....pretty buttons {smile}. My favorite memory of valentines day is hanging paper bags from our desks so that other kids could drop thier tiny valentines in them...you know the kind that came in a sheet and you punched them out? Too funny, I had totally forgotten about that!
Every valentines for as long as I can remember, my dad has given me a red carnation (Not sure if you get them in the States - I grew up in South Africa)and a card. How gorgeous is that!?
Hi Kristina! I remember finding a shoebox and making a valentine "mail box" to bring to school for all the valentines. Ohh how it would be so much fun to do that now with all my paper crafts. I also remember reading all the valentines to see if a secret admirer would reveal himself in the valentines....usually not the case, but I sure enjoyed the candy!
I remember getting all my valentines ready to go for all my classmates. Lucky for me, I'm a teacher and still look forward to this every year! Thanks for the giveaway
As a child (many, many moons ago)I remember the decorated shoe boxes at school and getting Valentines from each student and one from the teacher too. In preparation remember making cards from construction paper and paper doilies and decorating the classroom.
I remember buying the Valentine sets at the store and being so excited about writing out Valentine's to each person in my class. I also remember the conversation hearts that are still around. Those were always my favorite Vday candy!
I remember debating on whether to just sign my name or to sign "with love" on the valentines to the boys in my elementary school class.
I remember making mailboxes to hang on our desks for the annual Valentine exchanges at school. Sooo much fun!
As a child, I loved opening my bag of valentine's at home. Looking back, they were all basically the same card from different friends but I still loved reading them!
Hiยก.... remember going to the library to see the cards and gifts brought by Valentin and spend hours watching them.
My memory is from back in third grade. All of the third grade classes were watching a movie together (no idea what the movie was). My teacher called me out of the movie and into our classroom to give me a gift from one of the boys in my class, Nick. It was a tan teddy bear with a red ribbon around its neck. I remember being so embarassed that I don't think I even remembered to tell him thank you. I have no idea what I must have said to the teacher, I know I must have turned 12 shades of red. I think I still have that bear somewhere...
And thank you for everything you do! I LOVE your blog - so many awesome ideas!!
I remember having a boyfriend in elementary school who gave me a beautiful valentine card that he made just for me! I was so pleased with it too. lol kids
Oh boy - Remember turning a shoe box into a Valentines "mailbox" - ready to receive all the valentines from our classmates? What a blast from the past!
I remember making as many valentines as I could for all of my classmates, teachers, family and friends in kindergarten and hoping I'd get the same in return...only to find a few in my little pouch. It was then that I realized it's not about what you get BUT what you GIVE. If only the rest of the world could realize this!
I remember covering a shoe box with aluminum foil and paper hearts. It took me forever and I was so proud of it. It was sitting on my desk for all to admire when Johnny threw up all over my desk. I dove for and saved my box!
I remember make a card holder out of plain white paper plates and decorating it with hearts. This is where classmates put the valentine they had for you.
I particularly remember the 6th grade. Not sure why. I remember everyone would decorate a shoe box and place it at the front of the room. Everyone would then drop in their valentines. When everyone was finished you'd go get your box and see who gave you a valentine.
Yay a giveaway!!
Well being only 16 (almost 17), I'm still in highschool. My school holds a 'Valentines Day Assembly' every year as a fundraiser for the graduating class- selling artificial and fresh roses, and chocolates. It's really annoying for the younger grades, but once you're a bit older it's a bit of fun sending your friends anonymous love letters :)
I don't really remember much but I do remember passing out vday cards in class. Now that I have a kindergartener, I look forward to seeing him pass out his vday cards to his classmates
On Valentine's day my sister and would wake up in the morning and we would find a yummy selection of valentine's treats on our place mat. I always loved the stereotypical chocolates in the heart shaped boxes that she would leave us, even though they were not my favorite for eating. I just felt like that was a "proper" valentine's gift. I have continued the tradition with my own children. I hope they appreciate it too.
Being that I'm so darn old now, I don't remember much more than making Valentine boxes to take to school..you know...the one-room school house!
When I was in first grade a boy gave me a (fake) silver heart bracelet, I was on cloud nine.
I remember art time, making most of the Valentine's Day cards for my classmates - doilies a big ticket item, and making a "mailbox" of sorts in the days leading up to the exchange.
I remember being in Grade 1 and being instructed to give out cards to ALL the kids in the class. I did manage to give my favourite card (which also happened to be the biggest) to the cutest boy in the class.
I remember how much fun it was to take home the list of classmates and sit down and address Valentine's. We always decorated a bag or box and then we'd go around dropping valentine's at each desk. I also remember that my mom would always give us some candy for Valentine's Day, even after we became adults! I do the same for my kids. :)
I remember sitting around the kitchen table trying to puzzle out which valentines with which sentiments would be given to which classmates. Of course, you had to be careful not to give anything too "love-y" to the boys! Oh my! I like Valentine's Day so much better now that I just have to find the right sentiment for one man in my life!
Thanks for sharing the fabulous goodies!
I remember looking through my valentines to see what the cards that the boys gave me said. Lol!
The thing I remember most is the box we made at school to slip the valentines into, I was crafty even then!! :)
Thanks for the chance!
I remember one Valentines day as a child where my parents wrote wondeful things about me on little strips of paper and rolled them put and put them into a jar. It was sitting on my bathroom counter in the morning when I woke up. It was really nice and meant so much to me!
I will always remember receiving valentines from my mom. They are the ones that really count.
I remember making my own Valentine's box for my classmates to put my valentines in. Very very fun. :O) Yummy goodies you have to share!
We made mailboxes for our valentines each year, but my favorite was the one I made in third grade. I covered a shoebox in aluminum foil and covered it with bright red hearts. I thought it was very creative. My favorite mailbox someone else made was a boy in fifth grade who decorated his with a heart with an arrow through it. The heart had a face and arms and legs, so on the arrowhead sticking out of it was an impaled eyeball. Too funny!
Definitely the little boxes of die-cut Valentine's Day cards that we bought each year so we could exchange cards with our friends. They were so kitschy.
Wow - what a sweet giveaway. What I remember most about Valentine's Day as a kid is the valentine's card and gift I'd get from my parents. It'd be waiting for me when I got home from school. I miss those days - thanks for bringing back the memories!
I remember decorating a shoebox for my valentine mailbox and waiting patiently as my classmates filled it with their valentines. Then after school my friends and I would go over each valentine together. I myself always looked for JT's right away because I had such a grade school girl crush on him :)
I remember making mailboxes, crafting cards with glitter and doylies...and reading that very first valentine (grade 4 I think...) that REALLY meant something *wink* Ahhhhhhh young love *lol*
I remember picking just the right cards for each classmate and trying not to pick the sappy ones for the boys. And then in class we would decorate a paper sack or shoe box with our crayons and cutouts. If I only had one of those now to look back at. LOL!
my fave v-day memory is from art class in the 2nd or 3rd grade. using red and pink construction paper we made turtles using various forms of hearts. we cut out a big heart to use as the body (folded in half). we used other hearts (open) for the face and feet. i loved this project so much i went home and continued to make turtles out of any paper i could find. i feel bittersweet calling for me to come and make a "love turtle" for old times sake :)
thanks for the giveaway!
I remeber making a Valentine "holder" heart out of construction paper for to put our Valentines in. I also remember thinking it was so important to pick just the right Valentines to hand out to everyone.
I remember "The Blue Valentine", by Gwen Schultz.
as a child, i remember when i was school, everyone like to exchange some chocolate to each other, it is kind of tradition in my country because when i was in high school, it is still same. Girls would hand-make, and they would exchange it, and boys can try them free haha
I remember the Valentines Day in Grade 12 when we could fill out this "Match" form and the print out would tell you who in Gr. 12 you matched with. The guy I liked at the time (but didn't know it) filled his form out at the same table as me so I discreetly copied his answers so we would be a match!! We were, but nothing came of it :( Probably a good thing!! What a great giveaway! I love those stamps and see that they're sold out at 2Peas.
Valentines day was always fun and full of challenges. Challenges like the ever crazy shoebox decorating contests. You know, the one where we all tried to make the best creations ever and putting 10,000 heart in every shade of pink or red on them and then taking them to school to see who get cet the most cards cramed in theirs
I had a not so pleasant teacher in the third grade. Ms. D was not very fond of me, I was convinced! However, it all changed that year on Valentine's Day when my decorated Valentine's bag won first place in our classroom contest...funny, the rest of the year I gave her a break! :0
I remember being in the 4th grade and getting a box of chocolates from a boy named Jimmy. I had no idea that he had a crush on me. I was elated and embarrassed all at the same time, but I still remember it.
I remember how fun it was in class to make our valentines holder and seeing all the cool cards. The ones with sweets were always a special treat.
What I remember most about Valentine's Day as a kid was picking out the cards at the store and then at school decorating a paper bag for everyone to put them in.
I remember my mother giving us little presents on Valentine's Day morning before school.
When I was in 4th grade I had a crush on this boy and my mom and I made him a chocolate cake in a small foil heart shaped pan and gave it to him. I was so scared. Sadly I think there was a nod of thanks and nothing else. My poor heart. I survived ;) Still haven't found the one who will thank me yet. He's out there. :)
I remember one Valentine's day when my Mom made a wonderful dinner. She decorated the table with hearts and candies and set a little gift at each of our plates. I'll never forget how pretty it was!
I love Valentine's day! My birthday is the day before V-day, so all of my Valentine's memories are wrapped up in b-day memories too. My mom used to make me Red Velvet cakes! Yum!
In addition to the little cards I would get in my classroom (and looking for the one from the cute boy and picking out all the ones with conversation hearts in them), my Daddy always would give me a special Valentine's present. I didn't realize it then like I do now, but I was his sweetheart. Sometimes it would be flowers or other times a record that I wanted, or just something thoughtful. Those memories are precious to me.
I have to confess that I don't really have that many memories from Valentines' day...=( I'm from Sweden and I can't really remember if we celebrated this holiday when I was little. I think it's one of those that got imported more recently(like Halloween). Funny.=) Now I really enjoy it though. Receiving roses and a sweet card from my hubby is a wonderful thing.
Ooh, ooh, ohh! I remember my favorite thing was creating the box for my Valentines that we exchanged at school. I think my favorite one ever was all covered in foil and lots of shades of pink hearts. :)
I remember this one mystery Valentine's card I got one year. I never did find out who sent it. I still wonder about it from time to time. It was THE most exciting thing at the time...and I kind of like that it is still a mystery to me ;-).
Best wishes Kristina, Thanks for all the work you put in for us.
Sam.
I remember getting mini heart shaped box valentines from my father. It made us feel so special when we were young and I always daydreamed of growing up and getting a valentine from a man who loved and spoiled me like my daddy did
My favorite memory about Valentine's Day as a kid was making the pretty boxes that the Valentines would go in at the class party. I've always loved arts & crafts, so I've never forgotten how fun that was. And then the big day would come when we'd go around the room and fill up each other's boxes with Valentines. This was the day before candy was given instead, so I suppose it dates me! Good memories.
I remember that my mother always baked a Valentine's Day cake in a heart shaped pan for us, and always always made a card for my brother and I, usually with pictures and bits of text cut from magazines. We carried that tradition on for many many years after.
Aww, this is so cute of you to do. I have two favorite Valentine's memories as a child. One, I think I was probably 8 yrs old, I went to school, actually to the latchkey program before school, and I realized I had left all of my Valentine's at home, so I had nothing to give out, plus if you didn't give them then you didn't GET them! So of course I was incredibly upset.... until all my little friends and the day care teachers decided to use activity hour to make Valentine's... for me! I was able to take them to class and share with everyone. Hmmm.... is that where my card making love really began???? haha My other memory was being sick on Valentine's when I was probably about 10 yrs old. I had to miss school and it was the most depressing thing for me. I loved class parties and I especially loved Valentine's. So having missed out on all the festivities, several of my classmates came by my house after school with all the Valentine's cards I received and cupcakes and candy and my parents ordered pizza and we watched movies. It ended up being one of the best V days ever! Happy V day to all of you :O) and thanks for the giveaway KW!
I remember decorating the valentine boxes that sat on our desks. Breakin' out the construction paper, gluin' on hearts...oh yeah, the good 'ol days! I still save shoe boxes, but kids don't make valentines the same as we did! Thanks for the chance at a sweet giveaway!! U ROCK!
I remember hoping for Valentine's cards from my crushes, and I loved getting ones that had a sweet snack attached!
Oh I just love those buttons!
I remember being in elementary school and passing out valentine cards (the kind with the perforated edges) with suckers attached to my class. I remember being excited to recieve them in return too. Wow...what a good memory and I haven't thought about that in a long time (not that I'm decrepit). Thanks for the opportunity to win some goodies.
I remember the parties at school, where I brought cards for everyone, but they were different depending on if it was for a girl or a boy. :) and of course all the candy. Yum. Thanks for the giveaway!
a handmade card & a lollie pop from my first boyfriend, when i was 7
I don't have any one grand memory of Valentine's day as a child, but I do remember how excited I was just to go to the store and pick out my box of Valentine cards, and then take them home and sign my own name on them all to pass out to my friends. I also loved decorating my "mailbox" at school to house my Valentine's The BEST part, of course, was bringing home the mail box from school and reading all the cards and enjoying the treats. I love Valentine's day!
OMG-look at the amount of entries already!
My Valentine memory happened when I was about 16. My dad wasn't a hugs and kisses, vocally expressing love kind of dad when I was growing up. Probably like most men of that time, it just wasn't in their comfort zone.
Well, this Valentine's day dad totally caught me by surprise and gave me cute little teddy bear! At 16, being at a tender age, it really meant a lot to me. I still have my teddy bear!
All I remember as a kid, are the shiny metallic heart shaped boxes of candy and the conversation hearts, oh ya! and the in class exchanges were fun. I'd go home with a bag full of cards and goodies... I think that's what set off my love for making my own cards. :~)
I hope I'm giving my kids good memories of Valentines day.
I remember trading cards with all the other kids in my class.
I remember waiting by the postbox (I grew up in Dublin, Ireland)on Feb 13th for the postman to come so I could give him the extra, extra big valentine that I had filled with verses as it wouldn't fit in the postbox slot and I had left it too late to go to the post office. i don't know if the boy I liked A LOT ever got it or not :o( Fabulous giveaway Kristina!
For as long as I can remember, and up til now, my dad has given me a box of candy and flowers. He does so much better than my husband, lol.
I asked Daddy why he continues to do it, and he said, that other than my mom, I was his first real valentine. It always chokes me up.
He's 84 now, legally blind and a widower...and he never forgets!
My favorite memory of Valentines Day were those cartoon valentines cards. I loved Scooby Do and everyone else that year did too! Only a few that year had different ones. But we must not forget the decorating of the shoebox year after year! The boy I had a crush on at the time would get the candy hearts with the mushy sayings on them placed in his card. It never worked, LOL! Thanks for all you do, Happy Valentines Day :-)
I remember my Mom making me give V-Day cards to everyone in the class - even the kids I didn't like. So in fourth grade no one else gave this one boy a V card but me. Everyone thought I "liked" him. Yuck!
I remember making those sad valentine boxes from shoe boxes. We used to decorate the outside and everyone in our class would put their cards in each other's boxes! LOL!
I remember handing out those cute little valentine's to your friends. Oh... and I just remembered, I think it was 2nd grade when this boy gave me a big teddy bear with a heart on it that lit up when you pressed his hand... I remember being really embarassed... I had no idea that the boy liked me.
I remember the class party... Seeing if any of my favorite boys sent me a valentine :-)
I remember scouring the craft stores with my mother every year, trying to come up with and buy the supplies for the best, most creative valentines box for me to take to school.
What delicious blog candy! The thing I remember the most about Valentine's Day when I was a child was that we would make Valentine holders in our classroom and we would give each other Valentines. I would love to go through them and see who gave the ones with candy and also to see if any boys gave me any. hehehe! What fun!
Man, oh man - that is a generous giveaway.
We didn't celebrate Valentines day at home so I have no childhood memories of it...
The first memory I have of this holiday is from when my husband and I started dating and he bought me a designer silk flower and we went together to an Israeli rock concert... It happened 8 years ago.
Now, that we live abroad, this holiday is much more distinct.
I remember having to take turns one by one to drop off the little cute cartoon cards to each person's class project type baggies or mailboxes at everyone's desk. Usually we would have a movie and a really cool party with a few parents (including mine) dropping off punch or cupcakes! aww the good ole days!
i remember making valentines for mom in art class :)
I remember the parties at school and all the little valentine cards that we would fill out and then fill the mail boxes that we had made.
Awesome candy, thank you for the chance to win.
Me?! I just remember getting those Valentine cards that had a cartoon character on the front and a simple "to" and "from." At the end of the day, we got to take our coveted cards home in a little box that we decorated. Man, I used to think those cards were the best ever back then! LOL!
I remember lots of fun parties at school - decorating our bags and then collecting our valentines. Good enough memories that dh and I decided to get married on Valentine's Day! ~chris
Just the fun of doing valentine's and passing them out.
I most remember making my box at school. it would sit out for a week or so, and fill up in the days before the party. i always remember making my own valentines... my love affair with paper began at a young age! thanks for the chance to win the wonderful goodies. (by the way - the video of you and your roommate talking while you were crafting was so fun!)
flimsy little valentines cards that you get in school, usually with a punny message like, "Won't you Bee my Valentine?" Silly, but they meant the world. :) By the way, Kristina... you rock! I ADORE you!
I remember I was in 7th grade and there was a boy in my class who I thought was the best looker (be still my beating heart)well we use to have plastic tidy trays and when he randomly walked passed one day dropped a wee little note in my tray (be still......)asking ME TO BE HIS VALENTINE!!!!(just fainted) I was back there for a split second oh ok more than a second. lolololol oh by the way I am now 46!!!
aint love grand
I remember how much fun the Valentine's Day class parties were. We got the afternoon off from learning and we could just be kids...eat junk, play music, and pass out our Valentines.
Fun!!
I remember sharing those great conversation hearts. And the anxiety of wondering whether that special boy was going to give you a valentine, too. Ahh...to be a little kid again!
Oooh, this closes on my birthday! Hopefully that'll help get me picked ;)
Valentine's day was a great day for us. Fireworks on the beach and music festival kind of great. Because Feb. 14th is also the day my city (Antofagasta) celebrates it inclusion to chilean territory, it's a great party : )
I remember going to the store and picking out the cool little valentines day cards and writing down all the kids names. We also had a potluck party were we would sign up for the item we would bring, it was great!
Getting valentines at school was never the most exciting thing, but my mom usually prepared a small treat for us that was really special, something like a little candy or card. The various valentines holders that each teacher would have us craft were always, um, memorable. But the my most indelible memory is being intensely annoyed at people who insisted that "It's ValentiMes, not Valentines!"
Thanks for sharing your work with us on this blog, Kristina. It's really quite inspiring, motivating, and challenging!
I mostly remember the parties at school. Even though they were only like a half hour long, I would spend all day anticipating it.
In elementary school we would make boxes to put our Valentines cards in that we exchanged with the other classmates. I always looked forward to that every year.
I couldn't wait to open them. It was like getting mail!
I remember my mom putting heart shaped "love notes" on our bathroom mirrors and sometimes around the house for us to find on Valentine's morning. It was fun and made me feel special!
I remember when some boys gave me letter or flowers..hehe.I was so naive and innocent. They wanted my attention :) and all I did just smiled and said "thank you"
In elementary school we would make boxes to put our Valentines cards in that we exchanged with the other classmates. I always looked forward to that every year.
I couldn't wait to open them. It was like getting mail!
Like so many others--getting but ALSO giving those great kid valentines.....ah yes...such fun but especially decorating the "mailbox" they would go in.
Papercrafting even before it was defined as such!!!
lol
I remember practicing my best handwriting or printing before I would start on the cards. I would spend hours working on my list. Guess it was like Santa...made my list checking it twice...to make sure that I didn't leave anyone off. Then I remember the anxiety of waiting to see if I got a card from that cute little boy...or that most popular girl and being relieved and happy when I did.
Hi Kristina,
The thing I will always remember as a child growing up, not only all the parties & crafts we did @ school, but I will always remember my Mom making my Dad a heart shape cake every year. I pretty much continued the tradition by making one for my husband every year!
Valentines Day was tons of fun. I remember decorating a shoebox to store all the valentine cards. Picking candy to tuck into the cards was very important, and just the excitement of looking over all the different "special" notes and names written on each one was memorable.
Decorating boxes for Valentines to swap with classmates. It may be where I learned to love papercrafting. My Mom saved my first Valentine. It's in my baby book. This is from the late 60s. Happy memories! Thanks for taking me back....
I grew up in SE Louisiana, so I remember Valentine's Day as a whirl of Mardi Gras parades, my birthday, and Valentine's Day all combined! My best memory of Valentine's Day was that my mom would make a special breakfast and give us small gifts in the morning, wrapped up in the funny papers from the past Sunday (which usually had a Valentine's Day theme). She wasn't big on tradition but this was one we had that was really special to me.
Candy hearts. Absolutely the candy hearts. Call me crazy but I even liked the taste of them. Heck, I still do!
I remember getting to decorate your "mailbox" for the big Valentine's Day party. I loved making those mailboxes, must be why I papercraft today! Thanks for the chance to win some great blog candy!
I remember shopping with my mom for those little packs of assorted valentines. And oh yeah, as mentioned above, those cinnamon hearts - yum! I haven't thought of those in years. I'll have to go find some for my sons... (if only just to watch their faces as they try one!)
I remember signing all those little valentines for my classmates and then trying to seal those cheap-o envelopes that didn't stay closed!
Wow this is a fabulous prize Christina! I remember decorating a shoe box for our Valentine gift exchange at school along with a party. My mom would make meatloaf in the shape of a heart and give us a special candy treat.
I remember a red heart cut out one of my teachers gave me. It had gold glitter all over the edge, and I believe it had my name written in glitter inside as well... I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world. I refused to put it inside my book bag because I thought it would get ruined. I held it the whole day, until I got home from school, and glued it to my bedroom door. I loved that little piece of paper! So much that I remember cutting out a few dozens and gluing them all over a room for one of my boyfriends, on one Valentine's day when I invited him for dinner at my house some years ago! LOL I guess I wanted to recreate the memory!
Gosh, I hadn't thought of that in a long while!!!
I remember my mom having a family dinner. By each place setting was a little present wrapped. We got to open them and they were usually lockets or charm braclets. My brothers got cars or whisles.
Every year in High school on Valentines day (or around that time) a local florist would come to school and sell single carnations to all the students for .50 cents with the idea that you'd buy one and give it to someone special. By the end of Valentines day my freshman year I hadn't gotten a carnation so I started to walk home when some random senior drove by me and asked if I had received a flower yet, I said "No I didn't". He got out of his car and walked towards me with a single carnation in his had and handed it to me. "Here" he said, "there is no reason why someone as pretty as you should go home with out a carnation". He was and still is my sweet heart!
so, i remember making our valentine boxes to take to school... my mom is so crafty and every year we would win 1st prize! i hope i can make rockin' v-day boxes for my kids... do they still do that? anyway, thanks kristina for all of your inspiration!
you are awesome!
I grew up in a country that didn't have Valentine's Day as a celebration. We did have a "Lovers' Day", called "Dragobete", on the 24th of February.
Good luck for the drawing everybody!! :-)
I remember one year (I was 13-14) getting a heartbox of choc. candy (we did not live very close to town and someone left it at the front door with my name on it. I know that it was not from my family because we all came home at the same time. I still do not know where it came from- thanks for reminding me of this.
As a child I remember my Dad bringing roses to my Mother on Valentines Day-a wonderful visual reminder of my parent's love for eachother which still continues today.
when i was in high school, every year i'd get a single red rose from a secret admirer...this made me very popular on valentine's day--my senior year my mom told me that they'd all been from her and that was ok with me :)
I remember that my mom made dinner special with decorations and little gifts.
She was wonderfull and she still is!

Valentine's day is for adult! (this is what i think when i was a kid :)
We went out with a friends of the family one Valentines night for dinner. I remember this boy at least three years older than me chasing me around all night telling me that I was the one for him and that I was his one true love, no one else compared. When I told him no he was reduced to tears. My brother then came to his aide and also tried to persuade me to be his girl! Are you serious?! I only just met him that night, not to mention I was only 10.
So you can imagine on Valentines Day it is a quiet affair in my home....lol.
Thanks Kirsty x
P.S I never saw that boy again (phew)
My favorite memory would have to be ALL the candy!! I loved it (and still do) LOL.
I remember having conversation hearts and addressing cards for my classmates :).
I remember that my mom would always give us a special little gift on the breakfast table and we couldn't get dressed fast enough to get downstairs and see. It wasn't ever anything big, but she didn't do stuff like that often, so we loved it!! Thanks for making me remember that! :)
I LOVED valentines day as a kid... especially the boxes of conversation hearts... I read EACH one before I ate them, but the orange and white ones tasted the best!
I remember all the Valentine's Day parties in school. I loved all the cards. I remember waiting for that special one from the cute boy in class.
Memories of sweet notes from my mom are childhood memories about Valentine's Day.
In elementary school I remember going to the store to pick out a box of the kiddie Valentine's Day cards (you know the ones - favorite cartoon character at the time), signing my name, and then passing them out. And then of course, the classroom party where we would consume lots of sweets and soda. I remember my teacher even used twizzlers as straws for the sodas. =)
I don't typically comment, but I do enjoy reading your blog! I got the other scrapbookers in my office hooked on your MACMs. =)
I (sadly) remember one year when I was sick on Valentines day! I was SO sad that I didn't get to take the valentine's box that I had made to put all of my valentines in! It was so pretty and had a lace border. My dad gave me a little teddy bear and a mug with chocolates.
When I was a little girl scout I didn't have any money to buy my mom a valentine's day gift so I took a box of the thin mints she allowed me to buy for myself, and carved little hearts into them. I presented a plate of the valentine thin mints to my mom that valentine's day, and she always reminds me of that day. :)
I do love valentine's day- it features my favorite colors-red and pink.
I remember exchanging all those cute little Valentines.
One of my favorite things about Valentines was creating that paper pocket for all your friends to put valentines into at school. And then there was always choosing just the right valentine for the cute boy in class . . . but now there's just one man for me! I love you honey! Happy Valentines Day!
My mom always made heart shape pancakes for breakfast that day!!!!!!! Then at school we would work on our sacks for Valentines day cards. Then we would have a party, eat lots of sweets, and read what everyone wrote on the back of their cards!!! Oh to be a kid again!!! :)
I remember making our Valentine card holders out of a half gallon milk carton at school. I loved gluing the construction paper and glitter on with my entire jar of paste. That same year I got a cute little bottle of kids perfume tied with a pink ribbon on a pink poodle :)
I remember making valentine card boxes - complete with paper doilies and hand-cut hearts!
I remember always stressing out about what the candy hearts said that I put into the valentines. I didn't want a boy to think I liked him and I didn't want the boy to know I liked hime!
I remember the shoe box Valentine box. I really got into it more then my kids do.
Wow... I loved Vaalentines when I was little. Me and my sisters used to take shoe boxes and decorate them all up for our treats. We always made homeade valentines with a little treat to give out!!Such good times!!! Love your blog sooooooo much!!!!
Linda
I remember those little valentine's that came in the box! And they always looked better on the outside of the box than they did when you took them out! I also remember cutting hearts out of red construction paper in school. Love this giveaway, such yummy buttons.
I remember the pretty valentine's my gramma would buy from the Kresge's in downtown Flint that were all glittery and were only a dime or 15 cents. I still have a bunch of them tucked away. She would have loved so many of the online creations too.
