Prima Water Soluable Oil Pastels with Stamps – First Look & Impressions

Not long ago, Prima introduced their new Water Soluble Oil Pastels and sent them to me to try out. Thanks, Prima! These oil pastels are really fun to work with, especially when you use them with stamps. They’re a little bit like watercolor crayons, but I found them to be more creamy.

For my card today, I used the oil pastels with a stamp set from WPlus9 called Autumn Leaves. This is a particularly good stamp set for use with the pastels because of the solid images.

I go into more detail in the video below, but to use with stamps you just have to color directly onto the stamp, moisten the color with water (I used a wet watercolor brush), and then stamp like usual.

The result is a beautiful color-mixed image. Super easy!

Back in the day (lol!), I had some watercolor crayons from Stampin’ Up! In comparison, I think the Prima Water Soluble Oil Pastels are a bit easier to use just because they are softer and more creamy. However, I haven’t used watercolor crayons for a long, long time so I’m just going off my memory.

For a comparison, the consistency of the Prima oil pastels is somewhere between drier watercolor crayons and the more wet Gelatos from Faber-Castell. It’s the perfect middle between those two. I don’t have a ton of experience with Gelatos, but from the few times I’ve used them, this is what I gathered.

You can also use the oil pastels directly on paper and mix them with your fingers or a wet paint brush. That could be some very messy fun. :)
