Minimal Supplies Card with Botanical Drawing Book

Hi all! Today I thought I would create another card using minimal supplies. I received Peggy Dean’s Botanical Line Drawing book in the mail not long ago and I’ve been wanting to try out sketching some flowers and leaves. And a big thank you to Peggy for sending me the book! Be sure to check out Peggy’s Instagram account, too.

I used two step-by-step examples from the book to draw the flowers and leaves on some watercolor paper. Then I watercolored them using inexpensive Crayola washable watercolors. To add some detail to the leaves, I used an Extra Fine Point Posca White Paint Marker.

I hope you enjoy today’s video! You can pick up a paperback copy of Botanical Line Drawing or the digital version for your Kindle or Kindle app at Amazon.

NOTE: The other floral drawing book I mention in the video is called Modern Florals by Alli Koch. Also, you can register for our new class called Rainbow Maker here.

Shhh….do NOT let out that beautiful art has more to do with the artist than the supplies. If certain people see that this can be made with a $1 Crayola set and my $$$ watercolors are not necessary…..LOL! Beautiful card, Kristina.

Always a treat! I got a kick out of Sherry W’s comment above — she’s right you know (smiling). And, I do like the more personal approach in the video’s.

What a great book! Wonder if I can get it through Barnes and Nobles, that would be a great way to spend some gift cards that I have. Beautiful card, I’m a sucker for watercoloring anyway, but I love that you drew it too. Thanks for another great video and project.

Beautiful you make it look so easy. That book would be great for “how to” draw. I’ll check it out.

I remember my son having a how to draw type book when he was young and how much fun he had with it. He’s now an architectural consultant and has his own business, so starting with a book like this can be priceless. I enjoyed watching you watercolor, as I always do, and the finished card is just beautiful.

That is AMAZING!!! The perfect set for me!

Love this video Kristina and thank you for sharing Peggy’s book. Your watercoloring and pencil drawing look so effortless, it’s such a delight to see. I could do the sketching (and I’m definitely going to get her book!), it’s using watercolor paints that I’ve yet to feel comfortable with. Watching you is definitely inspiring! Thank you!

Fun to see you “live” on camera, Kristina. The card is just beautiful, with minimal effort. Interesting to see how your version isn’t whimsical at all. Just goes to show how the book can be used as a springboard to different styles.

Beautiful painting. Love the colors you mixed to get really pretty shades.

You have a way of making things look so easy. I’m checking out this book for my two young girls who want to learn the art of drawing but lack the confidence. This will be perfect.
