Connecting Cricut to Your Computer

by Kristina Werner on July 19, 2009

in Bonus Videos, General

Hi all! Just a quick video sharing my experience of hooking up the Cricut Expression to my Mac. There’s some good tips for Mac users, but also for PC users as well. :)

Enjoy!

EDITED TO ADD: Here’s a link directly to Robyn’s Cricut video series. Some were having trouble finding it over at YouTube.

I know you mentioned not being able to use the Design Studio through Parallels, but I have been able to run Design Studio using VMWare with Windows XP

Thanks for taking the time to share the Cricut info!

Love the idea of the cricut, but i looked in my local shop and the cartridges are $159 each! I live in Aus and haven’t looked around that much but that alone put this machine so far out of reach I can’t even see it. haha. its a shame though… it loooks great. Thanks for all the details. love your blog.

I agree – even here in the US the cartridges are super expensive, not to mention the space they take up for storage! *LOL* But that’s the beauty of using SCAl software – you don’t HAVE to buy the cartridges at ALL! You can cut out any font on your computer, draw your own cutable designs (or buy them through 2Peas or others), etc. Super inexpensive that way!

What is SCAI software?

The link is in the video annotations. You might need to watch it over at YouTube to see the link on the video.

I tried the links as well and I only get to the point where you have to sign up for her store info… no tutorials?

Kristina Werner July 21, 2009 at 9:38 am

I’ve edited the post so there’s a link directly to her Cricut series. You should be able to find them there. :)

Hey, thanks so much for the Mac info. When I bought my Cricut, I had a PC. Now I’m Mac-based at home and have been unsure about making the leap to SCAL. I’ll have to think about how to do the firmware update, but at least I have the info on how to get everything set up. Thanks again.

Thanks for the vid! Is it just me or do you look a bit like Kirsten Dunst? Love your shiny hair, what do you use to make it look so great?

(P.S. There are many rude people, so I thought I’d share this thought :))

Many greetings from Germany

Thanks for the video! It was a lifesaver…. lol

How do you get the picture of the card to be the snapshot of the video? Does that make sense??? Like when people want to see the vid on YT, its not a snapshot of the vid, but the picture of the card

I think you’re referring to a custom thumbnail photo for the video. YouTube members that are a part of the Partner Program have the option of uploading a thumbnail photo. I’m super grateful that my Partner application was accepted just because of this one feature! I really think they should make it available to all YouTube users. :)

If I could make the word THANK YOU any bigger I would. I love learning things that I had no idea about and this is WONDERFUL!

No, thank *you*, Robyn! Your videos have helped me out so much as I learn more about the Cricut. Seriously, I went into this completely blind and your videos have been a great resource. :)

Thanks again!
