Recipe Cards

About a million years ago (or it just seems like it), I started the graphic design program at BYU-Idaho. I think it was in my first upper division class that I met Adrienne. So cute and super talented, too! Man, this girl can design. Anyway, I was so happy to hear that she started a letterpress business not long after we graduated called Dingbat Press (she has an Etsy shop as well). Some of you might remember her from a couple Color Inspiration Challenges (see here and here).

Anyhow, Adrienne has offered to send these recipe cards to a random commenter here at my blog. Sweet, eh? Here are the details on the cards: 1 Set of 20 (a $30 value) – Royalty 4×6″ Recipe cards. Letterpress printed in blossom. Paired with 5 tabbed folders for organization!

How to be entered to win: Leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite quick and easy recipe is. (If you leave a link, only include it in once–otherwise, my blog software will mark it as spam). Random commenter will be chosen at 7:00 pm MT on Monday, August 31st. One comment per person only.

And then go over to Twitter to win another set of cards…
To celebrate getting to 1500 followers on Twitter (thanks guys!), I’m going to sweeten the pot! Just tweet the following phrase before 7:00 pm MT on Monday, August 31st, and you’ll be entered into a random drawing to win a Dingbat Press recipe card set of your choice (up to $30)–this time on me! Only tweet once, please.

The phrase:
GIVEAWAY: Dress up your recipe box. Free letterpress recipe cards from @starofmay & @dingbatpress. Retweet to win! #dingbatpressgiveaway

NOTE: Please use the exact phrase above. I’ll be searching for the tweets using the #dingbatpressgiveaway hashtag, so it has to be included for your tweet to qualify. Thanks!

BTW, I’m going to have some Twitter-only giveaways in the upcoming weeks, so now is a great time to follow me so you don’t miss them. :)

one of my easiest recipes is rotisserie chicken pot pie…store bought pie crusts, cream of chicken soup, milk and veggies…easy peasy!

Sonja August 31, 2009 at 1:06 pm

My favorite recipe would be Cashew Chicken with rice. While the rice is cooking, I stir fry chicken with garlic and then add some chili paste. Once the chicken is cooked halfway, I add cashews, one table spoon of sugar, oyster sauce and light soy sauce. Stir in the veggies (buy the precut kind to save time) and let them cook. Once it’s all cooked, serve and enjoy!

By the way, great recipe cards, they look so much more special than the once I usually see.

My favourite recipe is super quick and easy:

Cappellini with Lemon Pesto

Cook Cappellini (or Spaghetti if you like).
In the meantime, per Person:
Squeeze half a lemon, add a little bit of olive oil and mix with 2 tablespoons of grated Grana Padano (or Parmesan). Add the hot pasta so that the cheese melts. Bon Appetit!

It’s perfect for summer evenings! And it’s perfect for student life ;)
Many greetings from Germany

My favorite recipe is a salsa recipe from the Joy Of Cooking. My father always had a garden and grew the best tomatoes. He would grow enough to feed a small country for a year so I used some of them up for him by making salsa! Since he passed away I decided to grow a garden with my family. The tomatoes are taking over…I am sure that Dad is looking out for our garden! (thanks Dad).

My fave recipe – super quick & easy, too!

Fiesta Dip
1 brick cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 package dry mix taco seasoning (I use old el paso)

Blend together using hand mixer or wooden spoon. Spread on a plate. Refrigerate a few hours. Before serving, pour half a jar of salsa on top and cover with shredded cheese. SErve with taco chips for dipping.

Yum! I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

Thanks for the giveaway. The cards are super cute.

One of my favorites is chili in the crockpot…ground beef (or better yet veggie crumbles-no browning, just toss in) 2 cans of chili beans, and 1 pint of mom’s homemade salsa (or use regular salsa).

Maria August 31, 2009 at 1:37 pm

My favorite quick and easy recipe:

Crockpot Roast

3-4 lb. chuck roast
1 jar chili sauce
1 envelope Onion soup mix

Put roast in crock pot. Mix chili sauce and soup mix. Pour over roast. Cook on low 4-5 hours. YUM!!!!

Totally yummy served with oven roasted fresh green beans.

Here is a super-easy cheese ball that has been loved by everyone I have fed it to: Beat 1 pkg of Philly with 4 Tbsp of maple syrup. Stir in 2 cups of grated cheddar and pack into a cling-film lined bowl. Refrigerate to firm it up a bit. Take it out and roll it in some chooped pecans or more grated cheddar. Serve with your fave crackers!

My go-to recipe is for salmon. I always have some cedar planks handy, so this is what I do:
mix spices or a marinade of your choice with 1/2 cup of mayo. place salmon on a prepared cedar plank (soaked in water) and cover salmon with mayo mixture. BBQ until salmon is cooked ALMOST all the way through. (You want it a teensie bit raw in the middle for optimum taste)

YOU WILL DIE! I promise. you’ll die..

Janice August 31, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Love the card. Thanks for the opportunity to win some recipe cards.
Here is my cheap, quick & easy (and the grandchildren’s favourite):

Cook elbow pasta in boiling water till cooked. Drain. Add 1 tin of cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 tin of milk, 1/2 cup shredded cheese (or to taste), and serve.

How’s that for quick and easy ?

Maureen P August 31, 2009 at 2:33 pm

This is the easiest and tastiest recipe I have. It’s my goto recipe when I don’t want to cook :) It’s from a fabulous cookbook, Eat, Shrink, and Be Merry…same Canadian ladies that wrote CrazyPlates and Looniespoons. All very funny reads as well as they put in lots of facts and laughs.

Kickin’ Chicken

12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or 6 boneless, skinless breasts (about 2 1/4 lbs)
3/4 cup bottled light peanut sauce
1/2 cup medium or hot salsa
1/4 cup chopped, fresh basil leaves

Preheat oven to 400 F. Spray a 9×12 inch baking pan with cooking spray. Arrange chicken thighs in the pan in a single layer. If you’re using breasts, cut them in half to make them fit the pan if necessary.
Combine peanut sauce, salsa and basil in a bowl. Pour over the chicken evenly and make sure all pieces are well coated with sauce. Bake, uncovered for 40-45 mins for thighs, and 35-40 mins for breasts, or until chicken is no longer pink in the centre and sauce is bubbly.
To serve, arrange chicken on a platter and pour the sauce from the pan over top.

6 servings

YUMMO!!

Sweet give away! Letterpress cards, quite classy and stylish. Love the paper texture!

Quick & Easy Recipe #1 Yummy Sandwiches
Saute green peppers (and onions if you like ‘em), cook up some ground turkey or beef. Mix the two together, and add your favorite cheese on top (cheddar, swiss, etc.) until it gets melty. Meanwhile, take your favorite ciabatta bread or kaiser roll butter/ oil it, grill it until golden. Then put the meat, cheese, pepper onto your sandwich. Even better with a panini machine!

Quick & Easy Recipe #2 Strawberry Ice Cream
Take a pint of hulled strawberries, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 quart of half and half, put them in a blender. Then transfer the mixture to ice cream maker. Mix it in the maker for 20-30 minutes until it’s thick. Enjoy right away for soft serve, or freeze until harder if you like it that way.
I love that it’s easy to make this ice cream using organic ingredients. My sister in law is really particular about what her children eat. She was relieved to know the ice cream isn’t loaded with artificial ingredients, and it tastes yummy. Actually I made one with more fruit and skim milk for her and she loved it. It’s okay for ice cream without egg yolk.

Make something delicious for yourself/ the ones you love. You’re well worth it!
XOXO

Hi Kristina,

This is a blueberry muffin recipe (the best recipe I’ve found) but the batter is great for anything you want to mix in, chocolate chips, dried fruit, spices…whatever you like. The muffins are even good made plain and served with jam:)

Blueberry Muffins

4 eggs
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups sour cream
2 cups blueberries

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Grease 24 muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.

In large bowl beat eggs, gradually add sugars while beating. Continue beating on low speed while slowly pouring in oil, sour cream and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, stir together flour, salt and baking soda.

Stir dry ingredients into wet mixture.

Gently fold in blueberries.

Scoop batter into prepared muffin cups.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Makes 24-30 muffins.

My favorite quick and easy recipe is tacos. It is so simple and it never fails to please my kids and hubby.. I brown the tortillas in oil to get a yummy flaky taco.

Barb Kys August 31, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Hi Kristina!
A quick and easy favourite at our house is a Nacho Dip. Use Soft Light Cream Cheese, spread about a 1/2″ on the bottom of a pie plate, top with your favourite salsa, and then sprinkle on some shredded cheese. (Tex Mex or Cheddar) That’s it! It can be tweaked to your liking by adding chopped black olives, tomatoes, green onions, whatever. And just scoop it up on some yummy tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Hi there!
Thanks for this opportunity, great prize!
My quick recipe is “croque-monsieur” It’s an open face sandwich on baguette bread, dijon mustard, sliced ham and cheese (mozza or emmental) and you just broil it in the oven for 2-3 minutes, just until the cheese is slightly brown and bubbly: YUM! with a quick salad, it’s even better!

Maggie August 31, 2009 at 3:43 pm

I add a mix of veggies(carrots,potatoes..what ever that looks sad)mexican sausages(they are spicy) I add a taco spice mix to it and bake it. Serve it with a tossed salad and you are good to go.

Great cards and posts – enjoying reading all the other recipes! My favorite quick snack recipe is for Firecrackers:

Open four tubes from a box of crackers and put them all in a 2 gallon plastic bag. Add 1 and 1/4 cup canola oil, a package of Ranch Dressing and 2 Tbsps of cayenne pepper. Shake it all up to fully coat the crackers and let sit for 2 hours (turn the bag over every now and then). Serve with crackers, salsa, dip, or whatever sounds like fun!

Robin S. August 31, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Still lovin’ your blog! I honestly don’t know how you find the time to do all that you do! Here’s my quick and easy meal:

Chicken Parmesan

– Favorite jarred or homemade spaghetti sauce – enough for everyone to have some
– Boneless, skinless chicken breasts – however many you need to feed your gang
– 1 stick butter, melted
– Bread crumbs, preferrably seasoned
– Mozzarella cheese

Put spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Dip chicken breasts in melted butter, then dredge in the bread crumbs. Place on top of the spaghetti sauce. Cover the whole dish with mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes (depending on the thickness of your chicken breasts. Serve with spaghetti noodles, Caesar salad, and French bread. So yummy and a really quick meal!

My favorite quick recipe is my nanny’s chicken corn soup. So easy.
can of creamed corn
can of white corn
can of yellow corn
largest can of college inn chicken broth
4 hard boiled eggs
rotissiere chicken cut into pieces
4 potatoes, cut

boil the potaotes in the chicken broth
after the potatoes are boiled, put in the remaining ingredients and then cook over low heat until ready to eat. add sugar and salt to taste. :)

Anne P August 31, 2009 at 5:00 pm

Hi :) My favorite quick chicken recipe is 1 boneless, skinless breast piece of chicken per person, diced into bite sized pieces. Spread over the base of an ovenproof serving dish. Cover with gravy, then spread stuffing over the top. Cook in oven until the chicken is cooked – about one hour, and the stuffing topping is golden brown. This is great if you like roast chicken, but hate carving and serving it, because the work is all done first and you can serve it straight to the table from the oven.
