Holiday Card Series - Day 8

Morning, all! We’re at day 8–can you believe it! Practically 1/3 through the entire series. :)

Today’s card uses masking, misting, and embossing. And used on such a large card, those small things create big impact. I used 7Gypsies’ Savannah alpha stamp set, which I think is my most favorite large alphabet for stamps, and Maya Road’s Maya Mist in Brown and their Snowflakes stamp set.

Anyhow, enjoy!

NOTE: I’ve received a LOT of questions about the music included in the videos. It is a 10-second clip of royalty-free music I purchased online. It’s not a real song from an album. :)

Love when you do the masking, it always turns out so neat. Adding that one colored button just made the card. Thanks so much for the gift of these cards each day, it’s so appreciated!!

Love this one Kristina! Your embossing always looks so clean and crisp. I have real troubles when it comes to embossing but you make it look so easy. This looks so cool, I think I’m going to have to keep trying until I get it right. Thanks again for the videos. I am enjoying every one of them!

Cyn Chapman November 11, 2009 at 7:48 am

I really like the colors in this card! I am so going to have to try embossing one day. ;)

Was it Pavlov’s dogs that started to salivate whenever he rang a bell? I am getting that feeling at about 2.30pm UK time as I know there’s another fabulous card on the way!!!
Great card, love those fonts – must be the serifs I think. That teeny little red button on the snowflake is a fabby finishing touch, thanks for another wonderful card, Jo x

It looks so easy from you! Good Job!

I love this card. So simple and beautiful.

Denise November 11, 2009 at 8:24 am

I just love the card… I am heading to my craft room to make this one! I am changing it to be MERRY Christmas…. but love the ideas that this card gave… like saying “HAPPY birthday” etc….. thanks!!!

AND I love the little jingle music! I checked it out at the site you mentioned, I just had no idea that this was out there! Super cool!

Thanks

Time sure flies by! Wonderful card!

Elin November 11, 2009 at 8:40 am

So nice!
I had no idea the versamark stayed wet that long, I’ve always embossed one letter at a time.

Eveline van Heijst November 11, 2009 at 8:59 am

Love your trademark white stitching. Great card.
Eveline.

Angie November 11, 2009 at 9:14 am

Love this card – so clean, simple, and easy. What font did you use for the “HAPPY” sentiment? I noticed too that you use your cricut expression a lot. Do you ever use the silhouette sd?

Kristina Werner November 11, 2009 at 10:05 am

I have an older Silhouette that I don’t use much anymore. :) I pretty much only use the Cricut.

Kristina Werner November 11, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Oh, sorry! Forgot to answer the font question. I believe it’s Rosewood Fill.

Barb. Smith November 11, 2009 at 9:19 am

Another great card. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out when I saw the misting but it all came together beautifully. I was impressed with the VersaMark and how it stays wet long enough to add the embossing power. Thanks.

Such a fantastic idea Kristina I’ve looked at the various mists on the market and never really known what to do with them . Thanks for the inspiration .Only trouble is …. Man is my Shopping wish list growing LOL !!

Carissa Wiley November 11, 2009 at 9:47 am

This may be my favorite one so far! I feel inspired!!! It’s always fun to use a different size. It’s a challenge and a deviation from the norm. Great work!

Janice871 November 11, 2009 at 10:27 am

You’ve probably been asked this a million times, but I would like to know what the names of your adhesives are. I can’t seem to find the pop dots you use that are hectagon shaped and the roll of sticky dots that you press objects onto and peel off. Thanks!

What a bold and beautiful card today. I can just see it displayed among the others on the mantle, or taped to the front door, etc. Those chipboard buttons are FABULOUS! I fell in love with them the first time you used them!
Thank you and have a wonderful today! :)

Hi Kristina, Another great card creation. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to share a fun how-to video with us. I think you are very kind. I appreciate your time spent with us. :)

Leslie November 11, 2009 at 11:44 am

Love it. I love having a video everyday to watch from you. BEAUTIFUL =)

Malu G November 11, 2009 at 11:46 am

Cute idea! What is the name of the font that you used for happy?

Kristina Werner November 11, 2009 at 1:13 pm

I believe it’s Rosewood Fill.

Katy November 11, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Another wonderful card. The button just set it off just right. Question…why do you stamp letters backwards?

Thanks for your videos!

Adam November 11, 2009 at 12:56 pm

I wanna try this with clear embossing powder instead of white. I think the different layers of translucency would be really neat

Sylvia November 11, 2009 at 12:57 pm

OH, wow! So VERY creative – awesome card!!!

Kelly Silva November 11, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I have to get my hands on that alphabet stamp set. I love it! Great card.

Emmy November 11, 2009 at 2:29 pm

I really like this card! It makes me want to try masking! I love your holiday card series! Thanks for showering us with videos.

Ros November 11, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Hi!! I like a lot your cards! they are really simple, so could be good for a beginner, but you use so much expensive and “special” material that is really difficult to have for those who are starting with cardmaking! and you could also be helpful in “re-using” stuff in a different way, but you always have something new!
anyway this card is really beautiful! i like the alphabets you used!

Kristina Werner November 11, 2009 at 2:57 pm

The joy of this craft that you don’t have to use the same supplies and material I use. :) You can substitute it with things you own or that are available to you. It can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be. Also, you have to consider that I design for an online store. :)

Billie Anderson November 11, 2009 at 2:42 pm

I really like the card and love the idea of masking great card. Thanks.

Hope November 11, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Another great card, I love the way the words overlap, and that button with the string really finishes it beautifully. I’m inspired to give it a go – something similar anyhow :)

Dixie C. November 11, 2009 at 4:22 pm

It looks 3-D! Like it.

Carol Howell November 11, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Great card and good ideas!! :)

Kelly Rodgers November 11, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Very cute. Awesome card Kristina

Nenita Ang November 11, 2009 at 6:25 pm

You know, one of the great things about watching your video is that I get encouraged to try out techniques I would not dare imagine myself doing. Like this misting, I’ll admit I am terrified of it because I might mess up my card. But since I saw you do it, I might just give it a try :D Thanks for the inspiration, Kristina!

Diana November 11, 2009 at 8:08 pm

I could really get use to your daily video cards. You are a very good teacher. Thank you for your time in making this series. Love it!

Carolyn November 11, 2009 at 9:44 pm

Kristina, I agree with Diana. I am getting hook on cards videos. Thanks very much for all you do.

Natascha November 11, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Putting the card inside of a box when you use mist is such a good idea! The last time I tried using glimmer mist I got stains everywhere.

Danyscrap November 12, 2009 at 1:40 am

i love this card!!
very nice!!

Guenolee November 12, 2009 at 4:02 am

CJ Max November 12, 2009 at 6:27 am

Jill November 12, 2009 at 6:29 am

Kristina–love those fonts too–and this card rocks-the the simplicity of the bold fonts! whoowee! fabulous! Is the mist a bit sparkly? so fun when you use that :)

Amy Jo November 12, 2009 at 6:40 am

Kristina, I really am enjoying your card series. Thank you for all of your inspiration.

Elaine November 13, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Very cool! I really liked this technique!

Vickie Lee November 14, 2009 at 7:10 am

You make everything look so simple. When I use mist – what a blobby mess I get. I’m always hesitant to try embossing and you make it look so easy. I really appreciate all you “show and tell” us. Love this card!
