Adventures in Sewing: Cosmetic Bag

I’ve graduated from simple zippered pouches to a slightly more complex cosmetic bag. After a test run on a smaller scale (which i use as a pencil case), this was my first attempt at a full size makeup bag. Oh, and Mannie makes an appearance at the end of the video. Curious kitty. :)

  1. Awesome bag Kristina! Obviously though, you’ve got to make a larger one for Mannie……..Then you can have fun “letting the cat out of the bag” every time he climbs in! ;)

  2. You should be proud of your first makeup bag. It came out awesome. Keep up the good work and you’ll be a pro in no time.

  3. You should be proud ~ I think it turned out great and for someone who is new at sewing :)

Mannie is sooo cute. His little face is precious.

  4. You should be very, very proud of yourself for taking on new challenges and going outside your comfort zone. Way to go Kristina!!!

  5. Such a cute project Kristina – I love it. That dotty lining is perfect too. It’s good to see that Mannie gives his seal of approval too ;)

  6. OMG! This turned out amazing! You should be very proud of yourself! How long do you think it took you, start to finish?
Congrats on a job well done. :)

  7. Congratulations! The project you have just completed is the exact same technique used to cover couch cushions. So if you ever need to revitalize a couch, you already have the skill set!

  8. A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!! I can’t believe you just started sewing. Incredible!

  9. Be proud – ignore all flaws – shut down the little critic and enjoy! Love to Mannie.

  10. Love your bag! That’s an awesome beginning to your sewing success. After seeing your pencil bag, I got together the pattern and materials to make one of my own. This was a real inspiration to get going on it. Thanks for that!

  11. You should be so proud to be a beginner sewer and work with zippers and unusual shapes like a cosmetic bag.
AND I FINALLY GOT TO SEE MANNIE ON VIDEO!!! YEAH!!!

  12. Very nice! I love the colors! I am an experienced sewer (not really a seamstress anymore), and I will tell you that these small items, all lined, with zippers, are A LOT of work! Terrific job!!!
It was also great to see Mannie – especially after you were so concerned about him a while ago. Pretty kitty.

  15. You should be ridiculously proud! It is adorable and you did a fabulous job. I sure am impressed. Mannie is a cutie!

  16. Turned out really cute! And – just a tip – if you don’t point out the little imperfections, nobody will notice. You are doing great.

  17. Your bag is beautiful. You did a wonderful job for not sewing much…I love to sew and have been so busy with stamping and scrapbooking that I have not sewn in a while…have been missing it, this is my inspiration to get my sewing machine out :)

  18. Kristina

  19. You should be proud of it! You’re so talented and you inspire me every time I watch one of your videos. I’d like to see some sewing videos where you show us how to sew! My husband got me a sewing machine over a year ago and it’s just sitting, waitng for me to not be afraid of it! I’m so intimidated by it, I don’t know why! Help! :)

  20. Kristina your sewing skills are awesome!!! Congrats!!!

I did conquer my fear of my sewing machine. I made a stuffed bunny out of socks. It is cute. Not perfect but I am kinda proud of myself for confronting the sewing machine “monster”! LOL!

(PS: I am not sure how Gravatar would show my bunny here or if it will. I uploaded it there, I hope somehow it gives the link for it here. If not, please Kristina, could you explain how? Thx!)

  21. Kristina you did a great job on your bag! Who cares if the sewing is not straight, no one will probably even notice that. I love how Mannie came over to check it out! So Cute!

  22. Kristina,
I wanted to share a link with you, www.youtube.com/user…. This lady has a wonderful tutorial on how to make a rag quilt purse… she’s also made an kindle clutch. Very easy and simple using her big shot to cut the fabric. She’s made some adorable items. It was by watching these quilting videos of hers that I came across your card making videos on youtube.

    Enjoy!
