Morning, all!
We are continuing our study of patterned paper this week for Friday Focus. Last week we talked about choosing patterned papers from a collection. Before we get into this week’s card, here’s a review…
The 3 “rules” of patterned paper (according to Kristina)
- Large/Medium Pattern + Small + “Solid” = CONTRAST
- Keep it to only one multicolor pattern.
- Plan ahead–How will each pattern be used?
Week 2: Choose patterns by color and element
When I’m picking out patterned papers that aren’t from the same collection, I always start with one main pattern (usually the multicolor pattern). From there, I pick coordinating patterns based on the colors in the main pattern, or elements from the main pattern. In this week’s card, I used a patterned paper from BasicGrey as the main pattern. I then used the orange and green colors for two of the patterns (common colors with the main pattern), and a text pattern (common element with the main pattern), to round out the papers.
I also used the Made with Love stamp set from Hero Arts for the sentiment on the card.
Cleaning StazOn off clear stamps
I haven’t had any issues using StazOn cleaner on clear stamps, but apparently it sometimes breaks down the clear polymer of the stamps. Hero Arts make a clear stamp cleaner that will take StazOn off clear stamps safely. You can find it HERE.
Anyhow, on to the video! :)

Beautiful card! I Love the colors and the patterns you chose. Thank you for sharing!
Love this card! I don’t think I struggle really with patterns, but I am really liking this series. It is giving me some ideas on how to get more mileage out of my paper stash in ways I hadn’t thought of, so thank you! I also love the tip about Glossy Accents. I struggle getting felt to stick to anything and don’t know why I never thought to use that…gotta try it soon!
I followed your tips on pattern paper for covers for a couple of mini album’s for family members.
I surprised myself how good the projects turned out.
I have learned a lot from you on card making and now I can use these great tips for other projects.
Thanks again!
This explanation of process has been helpful. I think I either overdue or underdue a combination of papers. You are generous with your knowledge and this newbie thanks you.
Kristina – love seeing the process you go through in designing a card. It is very helpful. Thanks for all the inspirational ideas.
Thanks for giving us a peek into your brain! I love it! and I love your card!
I have started using the dashed lines on my cards when I feel like something is missing. It really helps give it a finished feel! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for all your instructions on paper. I have learned sooo much. Now I can dive into my box with all the dibs and dabs of this and that and make some sense of it. And glossy accents — great tip. Didn’t know it was such a good adhesive. I loved the card. Nice contrast. Keep up the excellent work! We can’t wait for your next videos!!!
just popping in to tell you how much I love your new series on FF – It is so great to learn more on the principles behind your beautiful cardmaking to stretch my own abilities. Although I read interesting books about design-principles in general I was not yet able to transfer it to cardmaking while having it really in mind – maybe by fault sometimes, but not general.
Thanks for helping our abilities grow!
Kristina, I absolutely love this card! I love the ways you are using all of those random patterned papers together! I am a sucker for buying patterned paper, especially random loose paper that I love! Then I get them home and feel so limited as to what to do with them! Thank you sooo much for all of your rules and tips!

I’m sorry, I guess I don’t understand what you’re asking. Are you asking if I’ll send you supplies? If that’s the case, no I don’t sell product or send used supplies to people. I donate supplies to local schools and charities.
Wow now this is a stunning card, soooo classy and just beautiful! I love the way you designed this and made it all come together!
Thanks for all you do!
Sincerely,
Briana
Hello Kristina, I’ve been following your YouTube demos for quite some time now and I have really enjoyed your Friday Focus demos and I am especially enjoying the Focus on Patterned Paper theme. I loved this card so much that I have taken your tips, used my own papers, used a different stamp and I’m very pleased with the result. I’ve written up a post on my blog and, of course, included links to your videos and blog so others can see what your original card looks like too. Here’s the link to the post should you be interested:
