Friday Focus – One Layer Card #4

Morning, all!

Today marks the fourth and final card in my One Layer Card mini series. :)

For today’s card I wanted to show how you can using masking with spray inks. I created a polka dot background using punched circles of masking paper. Not the quickest way to get dots, but it sure is fun to peel them off later after the spray ink. :)

I used three colors for spray ink from Studio Calico’s Mister Huey line: Custard, Bonny Blue (discontinued?), and Clover. And darn it, I had some video issues and did catch the part where I was actually spraying the ink. But in the video I explain how I did it so hopefully that’s enough to help you guys out.

I also used a couple stamp sets from Hero Arts and Studio Calico. The border stamp is from the aptly name Calico Borders stamp set, and the talking bubble is from the Hey Y’All stamp set. BTW, did anyone else out there think that the sentiments in the Hey Y’All stamp set would fit inside the talking bubble? Oh, well! Instead, I used part of a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Grand Greetings. :)

Anyhow, enjoy!

  8. Love the idea of spritzing ink to make the card. Great idea. When you use your Fiskar stamp block thingy, it really does a great job. TFS

  10. Kristina,
Love to watch your videos and get clever ideas I can use. Here’s a trick Try it. You will be amazed at how good it works.. When having trouble stamping with a new set of stamps, if you take an emery board and lightly sand it the image will come out pergfect.

  11. It was wonderful to hear Manny in the background. Haven’t heard much from him since his blog while you were you on your cruise. :) Hope he’s doing well. I agree about the stamps, it really would’ve been nice to have the sentiments fit inside the sentiment bubble, you know? But of course, you did a wonderful job (as always) finding the perfect sentiment elsewhere. You’re my guru!

  12. Very nice, like it

  17. Oh, no! This is the last one layer card? I have been enjoying this series so much. I know when I first look at the card, it looks fairly simple, like I can do that, right? And I am tempted not to watch the video. But wow, watching the video really helps me appreciate the little touches that make your cards so professional–like masking the back side so it doesn’t get splattered by the mist, and laying the card flat so you can get a good stamping, and using the stamp press for precision. Thank you so much for all these little tips! I hope one day my cards look as good as yours! And I simply must get the Mister Huey mists–fabulous colors!

  18. Loved the video. Just a heads up. I was so inspired by the masking paper that I followed your link and your share a sale link is not currently active…
