Morning, all! :)
Today marks the second installment in my Inspiration Everywhere miniseries. This time I wanted to focus on the design of the card or the “card sketch.”
Card Sketch Inspiration
A great place to get inspiration to create your own card sketch is from seemingly unrelated photos. In the video below, I show how I used a photo of the corner of my office to create a card sketch. You can do this with SO many photos. For example…

So don’t be afraid to look for inspiration everywhere! :)
Today’s card

On this card, I used the Indie Chic Nutmeg 6×6 pad from My Mind’s Eye, the Untitled Postmark stamp set from Hero Arts, and a bit of gray baker’s twine from Doodlebug. I love the soft color palette. It’s so soothing. :)
Anyhow, on to today’s video!

I would never thought of that! Looking at pictures and see a sketch in it. Such a great tip! Love the card, grey and yellow are a great combo!
I use Papertrey Ink soft stone, might be lighter but still gray. Where is that card stock from Bazzill, is SSS going to carry it? They had nice array of colors when sw it all over the blogs. The way you devolped the sketch was amazing!
Getting the layout from a picture is brilliant :) I can do this anywhere (lunch break at work, waiting for appointments, flipping through magazines) and don’t have to spend a chunk of my craft room time sitting there trying to figure out what to do! Best practical tip ever! Thank you :)
I love how you draw inspiration from everyday images to create sketches for your fabulous cards. Thanks for sharing!
This was a great inspiration to me! I now see card and page layouts everywhere! (= Thank you so much!!! (=
Oh I love the color combination and the sewing really give it a special effect. Great! Hugs! Mojca
Oh, just love how you turned a messy corner space into an inspiration for a card! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this. This is very helpful.
I’ve been following your blog for just a short while. I really enjoy your style of card making. I’ve just now gotten back into card making and I was finding myself copying people’s designs. After reading your first post about inspiration vs. copying I decided I had to really start designing my cards on my own. This post really gave me a new perspective on where to pull my own inspiration from. Just last night I opened up my photos on my computer and the first photo that popped up I made a card from and I’m so proud of it because I know that it’s my design. Thanks again for sharing!
That’s awesome! :)
I recently bought Bazzil Basics Date Swirl Cardstock at Archivers it’s a soft grey with no texture i love it! C:
Its my fave color combo too:). Love the twine- it makes it feel so happy and whimsical :)
I really love that you are doing this. I have been looking through magazines and catalogs for awhile trying to gain inspiration. I would find color choices and simple ideas but I feel like this post gave me a whole new vision of the world around me. I love it! Thank you!
I also want to add that I appreciate that you are addressing the need to be authentic in your creations in such a classy way. I am a musician and so I have always felt that art can only progress when people are driven to use their own authentic and unique ideas. That is where the joy comes from. Thanks again.
Wow, thanks for the inspiration, what a clever way to create a design.
