Friday Focus – Inspiration Everywhere #3

Hi all! Sorry for the late post tonight. I imagine you’re all watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics, right? I’m recording it so I can watch it later and skip the commercials. :)

Anyhow, for my third installment of my Inspiration Everywhere series, I used a photo I took in Disneyland as the inspiration. This time I let the inspiration lead the color choice selection as well as the techniques I used on the card.

I used two different Distress Inks (one from the Spring Seasonal Distress Inks and the other from the Summer Distress Inks) to create the green/blue watercolor background. Then I silver embossed one of the sentiments from the Life in Fun stamp set from Hero Arts.

So enjoy! :)

  1. You may be concerned about it being too dark, but I think the card is striking!

  2. Did you say Dr Oz? I love him!!! I’ll have to watch the show!!! Thanks for the card inspiration!!!!! LOVE IT!!! Im a loyal follower!!!!

  3. You say it is to dark but it could also be considered more masculine instead of dark. Most men are not big on yellow orange colors and like blues and greens! So think of it that way :)

  4. I can only say WOW!!!

  5. Waw beautiful color combination and what a great and true sentimet. Perfect card. Hugs! Mojca

  6. I really like the color combo :) AND love that stamp set too. It’s always fun seeing you make cards :) Thank you!

  7. I really enjoy watching all your videos. I like this one so much. It is very dramatic. I am going to “borrow” this technique. Thanks.

  8. Love this technique! I have to try it soon!

  9. New York Med depresses me, but I love it!
You rock the cards, girlfriend! In regards to your ‘dingy’ edges, I know exactly what you mean. When I blend with black, I always have to go back over it with the lighter color again to blend the colors into each other. It doesn’t seem to lighten the black, and can actually intensify it, but it also gives it some ‘brilliance’. Even when I use the black distress ink, it always looks harsh if I don’t have another color to blend it with. I have a love-love-love/hate relationship with it!
Loving the Inspiration Everywhere series! Thanks!

  10. I like the smaller size of brown craft mat you have….did you just cut down a regular-sized one?

  11. Nice card and instructional video. I also like to use the watercolor technique, however, I’ve never embossed on it. Glad to see how great it looks embossed. I’ll try it. I agree that the black card base and outer “dingy” edges don’t look great together. I would have made the black edges darker and mounted it on a shade of a darker blue. :)

  12. Well, you inspired me…if only because you created such a beautiful blue background for the silver embossing! I have all the new Distress pads but haven’t used them yet. (Maybe a layer of silver under the piece might have “popped” it more? I still like it a lot!)

  13. Cosmic! I love it! This would be great for a guy.

  14. I think the card is perfect too! I think it looks really masculine! Of course I’d love to see someone else’s color palette too if they decide to post it! :)

  15. Very cool techniques! I agree that I liked it a bit better before adding the black. The black tones it down a bit and to stay true to the inspiration, you probably could have just had it mounted on the black base. I do however like it and if I hadn’t seen it before the black was added, probably wouldn’t think much about it. Now off to do some creating of my own! Thanks!

  16. Hi Kristina ~ Thanks so much for the video, I really love your card!
Also, thanks for recommending New York Med…I just watched 2 episodes on line, and I love it!!!

  17. I like that it is dark so you can see the light at the end of the tunnel…kind of, and friends help with that. I love NY Med and I love all medical shows anyway. Dr. Oz is wonderful.

  18. I love the colors in this card! I need use everyday things like that for inspiration more often.
Also, you mentioned that your brother and dad love Star Wars. I’ve never made a pitch on someone else’s blog, but I laser engrave Star Wars toilet seats with the phrase, “May the force be with you”. Just some fun bathroom humor for Star Wars fans.

Anyway, I’m a big fan. I love the Online Card Classes!

  19. I love the silver embossing powder that you used. Think I will have to get some myself!
Also liked the colors you used, but agree with you maybe not to blend with the black. I get excited to see what you have come up with. As always you have inspired yout fans.

  20. I love watching your videos and this is a great technique for the card. I didn’t love the black added to the watercolor paper and think I would have just mounted it on black after you added the blue around the edges. Great ideas though and I am sure I’ll give this a whirl! Thank you so very much for all you share with the stamping community!!! I have not seen that TV show but it sounds good! :-)

  21. Super video. I’m not even close in the execution category, but I got inky this afternoon and tried a few different color combinations. thecrookedstamper.bl…

I need to play with this one some more. Thanks for the inspiration!

  22. Love the idea with the background. Will try that too. Maybe a little lighter.
    Thx for the inspiration.
    Greetings from Germany! Franzi

  23. I think the card looks great . Love the colors

  24. I loved your video so I had to give it a try with an image I colored and didn’t know what to do with it. Thanks for the inspiration. 1craftypainter.blogs…
