Friday Focus – Inspiration Everywhere #4

Happy Friday, all!

Today’s video is the fourth and final installment in my Inspiration Everywhere miniseries. Today’s inspiration comes from this dress…

I bought the dress on sale from Alloy.com with the intention of cutting off the top (hello, weird back–I guess it’s not for girls who need to wear a bra–LOL!) and making it into a skirt. And it totally worked. I’ve done this before with other dresses because I love super long skirts but rarely find them since I’m 5’9″. Most skirts are mid-calf on me. :) Anyhow, I love the wide stripes with the chevron meeting in the middle down the center of the dress/skirt. I thought I would use that as a jumping off point for a tag.

You can also get inspiration from the recipient of the card. For instance, the person I made this for loves chevron patterns and bright colors. I took those cues and created this tag. :)

Enjoy!

P.S. I’m trying out different kinds of adhesive over the next few weeks. Today I tried the Glue Glider Pro. And it totally glides! Super impressed with it so far, but I want to see how the adhesive holds up after a week or so. I don’t want my cards falling apart. ;)

  1. So sweet. I like the clean-ness of the clear tag. I would totally send that in an envelope as a card. Thanks for the neat idea.

  2. So kawaii! Cute and clever! You picked the perfect papers too. I’m so amazed at what you did with that dress. Wonderful series. Thanks so much Kristina!

  3. I am so very much loving this inspiration is everywhere series. Also I am so glad that you are checking out adhesives. I am never quite certain which to purchase and use. Thank you for all the inspiration.

  4. As usual I enjoyed your take on this tag and was inspired. I had written you earlier that I too am looking for a new adhesive. The Mega Runner just does not stand up to using the delivery method. I was manually manipulating the adhesive to get it so it would apply to the paper. I contacted Xyron and the representative who answered me basically told me they didn’t care. I am anxious to see if this new adhesive stands up to application. Please keep us informed.

Thank you for all you do to inspire and educate me.

  5. Love it! Thanks for showing us how to do the chevron pattern, will definately use that on some cards!

  6. I am so interested to see how your exploration into a new adhesive goes. I have had issues with my Xyron tape runner since I got it . . . and I too did not get any satisfaction from their customer service. I will use it until it is gone but won’t get any more, that’s for sure. I will watch to see what your take on a new adhesive it. LOVED the little tag . . . you are so creative. And I suspect I am not the only one who would LOVE to see the finished skirt. What a great idea!

  7. I really enjoyed your tag today and can’t wait to a chevron pattern. I have a Glue Glider Pro, but I have to admit that I don’t like it very much. I seem to have to force the adhesive onto the paper. I hope you have better luck with yours.

  8. I’ve used maybe 3 or 4 different types of adhesive and actually prefer the 3M that’s in the ATG gun. I wish they’d made a smaller “gun” tho. It gets a little cumbersome when you’re scrapbooking or card making for a few hours and have a big ‘ol tool you’re having to work with.
Crafter and a seamstress? That’s awesome and so is the dress. I bet it turned out so pretty. Go CHEVERON patterns!

  9. Love this tag and your inspiration dress! I, too, would love to see the skirt on you!!! Hugs!

  10. Love your inspiration from the dress. It’s a very pretty dress, not sure if I would of cut the top off. I probably wear it with a jean jacket and a long pretty silver decorative necklace. How did your skirt turn out? Love to see a pic and how did the sewing go?

  11. Kristina – I had a stroke of genius watching you cut the 45 degree angles with those strips. How about using a large square punch on the 45 degree and cut both sides with one ‘kachunk’! :)

  12. hi, i love how you made the chevron in the tag so i took that idea and made a wedding with more simple pattern paper from follow you heart my minds eye so i thank you for getting that card out. I am only 13 but i love card making i even have my own craft room/area i hope i become as good as you
