Holiday Card Series 2012 – Day 3

Hi everyone! Today is Day 3 of the 2012 Holdiay Card Series! For today’s card, I wanted to color a digital image from Tiddly Inks that I bought a couple weeks ago. It’s actually a birthday image, but I thought it would be perfect for a holiday card if I used reds and greens. :)

Copics & Digital Images

Wryn Birthday Girl is a digital image that I printed out on my home printer to color with Copic Sketch Markers. I’ve heard from many of you that you’re not sure how to print out a digital images for Copic coloring. It’s actually super easy. :)

First I sized it down just a bit on my computer. I used Adobe Illustrator, but you can also open the image in Microsoft Word and size it down there. Then I printed it out on 120# Ultra Thick Cardstock from Simon Says Stamp. I have an Epson printer with Epson Claria Ink and it prints really well for these digital images. There is no smearing of the image.

In the past I’ve used Xpress-It Blending Card and Neenah Solar White cardstock for printing digital images and those work well also.

You really just have to test it out on your printer. Some papers will work better than others. If you’re still getting smearing, you can take your uncolored print out to a copy store and have copies made. I’ve heard those won’t smear. :)

Incorporating a Colored Image on a Card

I didn’t want to just have a regular rectangle around Wyn for this card, so I used an X-acto knife to cut one side of the image and slide a red piece of cardstock behind. This is a way to mix elements on a card without having to cut the entire image out. The shadows beneath Wryn are still intact, but I was able to have the sentiment area “interact” with Wryn. :)

Anyhow, I used another sheet of patterned paper from Lily Bee Designs Christmas Cheer collection kit (I used it on the Day 1 card, too). I also embossed the card base with an embossing folder for some interest.

Enjoy!
