Color Wednesday #5: Copics & Tiddly Inks Wryn Hanging Around & For The Birds Digital Stamps

Hello, all!

For today’s Color Wednesday card and video I used two digital stamps from Tiddly Inks: Wryn Hanging Around and For the Birds. I saw these images and thought they were too cute! Just had to have them! And bonus! There’s a clear stamp version of the images, too! The Wryn Hang in There clear stamp set. So if you’re loving the Wryn stamps, check out the other Tiddly Ink clear stamps.

I used Copics to color the image. Then I die cut some clouds to use as masks and added a bit of ink blending with Stampin’ Up! Pool Party ink.

Printing Digital Images for Use with Copics

I used Simon Says Stamp 120# Ultra Thick Cardstock for this card since it would be the card base. I needed the extra weight and I also knew that the Copic coloring wouldn’t bleed through to the inside of the card. I printed it on an Epson Artison 710 printer with Epson Claria Inks. It’s an older printer and might not be easy to find, but if you’re in the market for a new printer, I’d recommend Epson printers. I know some people have experienced printed images from inkjet printers smearing with Copics, but I haven’t had that issue. I’m not sure if it’s the combination of the paper and the printer, or what. I think you really just have to experiment. :)

  1. I love this! So cute!! Thank you for the coloring videos- I don’t typically color images, but I looooove watching!
When you print out your digital images, do you use a laser printer or an ink jet printer? When I’ve tried coloring, I always smear the print lines…. using an ink jet printer

    • Hi Molly! I think I answered your question in the post? Let me know if you have more questions.

      • Duh. I’m blind. I was just too excited to watch the video. Thanks a bunch! :) :)

  2. So cute, so clever, so… sneaky! Ha, ha!

  3. Adorable. So glad to see I’m not the only one that makes these little ‘goofs’ Great save though!

  4. Hi Kristina,
I am so keen to do some of my own printing on either a HP or Epson printer. The “pro” at the shop told me it’s more the paper you use than the ink. Is that your experience? Anyway I will be trying different papers and inks shortly… Can’t wait.
    Thanks – Martin

    • Maybe. I’ve tried Neenah Solar White, Copic X-press It, and SSS 120# Ultra Thick, and all of them did fine.

  5. Such a cute card – loved the video. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Gorgeous card. Is the card you color on glossy?

  12. I love the card, so cute! Can you do an updated craft room tour?

  13. Hi kristina, this card is gorgeous – I have been on this site and saw that image but wasn’t that bothered but now I have seen how lovely it can look it will open my eyes to other images too.

I have a QUESTION for you please if you dont mind – I have had pro markers for years so am confident with alcohol pens. I just for the first time got some copics, which I love, but every so often the ink literally floods down the nib into a big puddle on my work. I am not pressing hard and don’t really understand why this is happening. I have never had this with pro markers – but I do still prefer the copics so am a little frustrated. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks again for all the lovely inspiration,
    Amanda :-)

    • I’ve never heard of that happening. Is that happening with multiple markers, or just one? If it’s just one, I think it’s faulty. If it’s all of them… I just don’t know.

      • Thanks Kristina, I had a sudden idea and looked on the copic forum and lo and behold there was the same problem as this posted. One of the copic people said that it is to do with the fact that the pens are air tight and sometimes the pressure builds up wrong causing it to force ink out in puddles when working. To solve it all you need to do is open both lids for a few minutes to allow the air pressure to equalise. I thought that was really interesting as I did not realise how air tight the copics are apart from anything else, thanks for your help, Amanda :-)

  14. Just finished a friend’s birthday card and I had to repair some “oops” places. I was beginning to think that I was trying to ruin it completely! However, I was able to fix it and she will never know! Thanks for sharing yours too. It makes me feel better!!!!! Your coloring techniques are so great and I appreciate your sharing them!

  15. Wow! I don’t think I could ever color like you, but then again I only have about a dozen Copics!

  16. Hey kristina
I love this video!!! I look forward to your colouring videos =)
I do have a question about the masking… if I dont have the Judikins Eclipse Masking Tape Sheets would it be OK to use regular post it paper?

  17. Could you show us the back of your colored image? I think I lay down too much color the back of my images all soak thru. I do use the Express it blending paper. How did the back of your card look? I noticed that you did not color the whole image when you were laying down your initial color to build it up. Thanks for all that you do!! I have learned a lot with your videos.

  18. Hi Christina,
Love your videos and have been watching them for years.
I’ve had some success printing digital images on Stampin Up or Copic card stock, with regular inkjet printer but I think the secret is to heat set the image before you use Copic colouring or any other media and it shouldn’t bleed.

  19. Wonderful card! Love it!
    Kisses from Brazil!

  20. Love, love, love this card. Wonderful colors and so fun to watch how you use Copics. Everyone seems to have a little different approach and with time I hope my cards can turn out as well as yours. Love your videos as well. Thanks for your blog work.

  21. So many people mentioned this video I had to come see…amazing creation. :) Thanks for sharing the stamp. :)

  22. Absolutely ADORABLE!
