Holiday Card Series 2017 – Day 19 – Easy Watercolor Coloring

Hi all! Happy Wednesday! Today is Day 19 of the Holiday Card Series for 2017. For those who are are new to my blog and videos, the Holiday Card Series consists of 25 holiday card inspiration videos. I’ll be sharing holiday inspiration every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until December 20.

(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

For today’s card I wanted to do a bit of watercoloring. I chose an image from Art Impressions’ Sparkles & Cheer stamp set and used the stamp packaging as a guide for how to color it. I kept it super simple by using two shades of the same color for each area–a lighter shade over the entire area, and then a darker shade for the shadows.

I used Mijello Mission Gold watercolors and Royal & Langnickel Zen watercolor brushes. I also added some white details using a white Gelly Roll pen.

To finish off the card, I diecut the scene using Avery Elle’s Large Pierced Scallops die set, and foam mounted it to the card base. The background was stamped using Simon’s Christmas Sweater background stamp in Emerald Green Delicata ink.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I love watching you watercolor. I’m a beginning painter and so many times I think “Oh that looks great it’s finished.” Then you add a little or tweak a bit and it’s even better. I have to wonder how you know to continue and when to stop.

I looked through the products used section here and on youtube and I’m wondering what paper you used to do the painting. It may be in the video but I have bad cold and my hearing is shot, so with a new puppy rocketing around and the TV on I missed it. Could you add it to the products list? Thank you so much

This really is cute Kristina. It certainly helps having the coloured pic. on the packaging, I keep them all too. A fabulous job.

I love this one, that snowman is so adorable. I just saw the same background used yesterday in red, what a cool stamp to have, guess I have to breakdown and get it. Loved the video, my only problem is my volume is broken so I can only view and not hear the video, so I am dying to know why you cut half the picture when done, then put the die in again on the bottom and cut the bottom half, instead of cutting the whole thing, I know there was a great “tip” or reason in there and I would love to know what it is, what did I miss? Hopefully for Christmas Santa will bring me a new computer, lol. Love these series Kristina.

Because the die wasn’t large enough. I partially cut each end to extend the size of the diecut.
