Compact Travel Watercolors + Swatches and Color Mixing

Hello, all! Welcome to Watercolor Week! This week I’ll be sharing videos on various watercolor topics. In today’s video, I test out some watercolors I’ve seen online in multiple shops, but eventually found at Amazon. I’ll also be showing the new swatching stamp sets and dies from Waffle Flower.

(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

For the main swatches, I used the new Color Swatches stamp set. I stamped the main blocks stamp twice to create a swatching area with 48 color areas (I cut off one row so that it was perfect for this 42 set of watercolors). I used Versafine Onyx Black for all the stamping since it’s a waterproof ink.

I then watercolored all of the colors from the travel watercolor set. After swatching all the colors, I wanted to just played a bit so I painted some florals, and practiced mixing colors by painting a color wheel.

Some of these stamps look a bit complicated. But Nina at Waffle Flower has a ton of info about the swatches sets and dies at their site. Check it out here.

I swatched out this travel water color set using strips of wc paper, a pencil and ruler. This stamp set would have been so much easier and plan to use it for other media.

I rely on you for so many product recommendations :)
I love this whole release because I am so so terrible at measuring out and drawing swatch panels. It is honestly my least favorite part of getting any new product but I am hoping with these release I can eliminate the part I hate.

It’s funny how you don’t know you need something so bad until you see it in use LOL. I knew I needed to do swatches for my inks, crayons, markers, etc but didn’t know how/where to start. This release is truly a game changed for me and hopefully I will get better at mixing/matching/blending colors with amazing swatches available :)

I realized a long time ago that card making is actually 3 hobbies… 1. collecting cool products, 2. organizing all the cool products, and 3. actually using the products. These stamps and dies satisfy all 3 at once!!! Makes my heart happy :-)
