Compact Travel Watercolors + Swatches and Color Mixing

Hello, all! Welcome to Watercolor Week! This week I’ll be sharing videos on various watercolor topics. In today’s video, I test out some watercolors I’ve seen online in multiple shops, but eventually found at Amazon. I’ll also be showing the new swatching stamp sets and dies from Waffle Flower.

(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

For the main swatches, I used the new Color Swatches stamp set. I stamped the main blocks stamp twice to create a swatching area with 48 color areas (I cut off one row so that it was perfect for this 42 set of watercolors). I used Versafine Onyx Black for all the stamping since it’s a waterproof ink.

I then watercolored all of the colors from the travel watercolor set. After swatching all the colors, I wanted to just played a bit so I painted some florals, and practiced mixing colors by painting a color wheel.

Some of these stamps look a bit complicated. But Nina at Waffle Flower has a ton of info about the swatches sets and dies at their site. Check it out here.

This release has been made specially for you ! LOL !!! It’s really useful and with all the tips and information I get on your blog or with the classes, I will surely make a good use of these stamps.

How interesting. The stamps seem a little small, maybe its because I can’t see them in person, but I am defiantly intrigued.

Basically BRILLIANT!! :-) Love the uniformity this will bring to my messy swatches; I have so many water based sets that I haven’t swatched, this makes so much sense!

When I saw the waffle flower release the first people I thought of were you & Sandy Allnock, this is made for you two. Thanks for all your advice during this video.

My craft room goal is organization, but so far it hasn’t happened. Your ideas are great. This release could give me the inspiration to get started.

Great review. Love the new stamp set. Thanks for sharing.

These new swatch and color wheel stamp/die sets are FANTASTIC! I love the idea of swatching out my mediums but hate to make the charts so I don’t tend to do it a lot. This would make it easy to even swatch out color ideas for projects!

I’m going to need these swatch stamps now. I love your painted roses too! I’ve been taking your Simply Watercolor online card class and am loving it, but I’m only up to the second day so far. I got carried away doing lots of versions of the critter cards, but I’m looking forward to painting some landscapes and florals too.

This will definitely improve my swatch set for my watercolors, which hides in a drawer since it’s useless. Lol! I can see using it for other mediums as well. The roses are gorgeous BTW! I’m going to try that!

I am going absolutely crazy over this release. It is so unique and has so many possibilities. I’ve never really been the one to swatch, but I’m going to be a swatching queen when I get these in my hands.

Great tool for artists! I enjoyed the video of the new watercolors that you tried. They remind me of the Peerless watercolors in the format.

Waffle Flower has really created a buzz……. I think these stamps and dies will make all of our lives easier. Love that you still practice too Kristina, nicely done!

  • Reply Patty Beers August 6, 2018 at 4:47 pm

Thanks Kristina. The watercolors were even cheaper today on Amazon. You have to be careful though because there are several that look very much alike. I used your link though and was able to get the right one.

I think they would be great for travel. But some of your other points are well taken. I like these new products from Waffle flower. I think they are going to fly off the shelves….
