Watercolor Week: One-Color Challenge!

Welcome back to Watercolor Week! Today I challenged myself to watercolor a scene on a card using only one color of paint. I used the Animal Parade stamp set from Mama Elephant to build a fun scene to paint, and then use a nice blue color from the watercolor paints I showed in yesterday’s video.

(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

I really loved this challenge! While it was definitely a challenge, I kind of liked limiting myself to only one color. It actually simplified a lot for me when it came to shading since I didn’t have to choose additional colors.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I think I can do this! That’s what I love about watching you, Kristina – you give me confidence. Love the little animals, especially the blue bear.

Love the card! But blues are my favorite colors. All of the critters look happy but the penguin looks especially happy. Like he really wants to wiggle all over.

So cute! I recently re-watched a video of yours where you painted all the people in sepia and inside was a bright cake. I completely forgot the idea and I’m going to try it now that you’ve reminded me.

Wow! That’s awesome! It’s a great challenge indeed to use just one color but achieve the best effects!

Love this color… I do think you could paint with mud and it would turn out beautiful….. Nicely done.

This is such a great fun birthday card Kristina. And yes you where so right when you said that your background looked like the ocean, I thought it on the same time you said it. But with your gorgeous critters on it and the shadow among them there was no ocean any more!
I did once a one colour Vintage Winter card with my Distress Ink Vintage Photo and altough it was a challenge, it was in a way, just like you said, easier. Thank you so much for showing this!

Great job on this challenge. Your card turned out great, thanks for sharing this with us. I love to challenge myself. I was going through some supplies the other day and am challenging myself to use some things I haven’t used in a long time.

Super cute images, wow you ‘ve made it look so wonderful in just shades of blue. I’m still to master basic watercolour yet so this may be a while away. Can’t wait to see the card with just black, please have a try & show us.
