Watercoloring with Distress Ink – Baby Card

Happy Thursday, all! I have baby shower to attend this weekend, so I knew exactly what type of card to make today. :) I thought I’d break out the Wish Upon A Star stamp set from Mama Elephant that I used a few weeks back. The little bunny images are so sweet and perfect for a baby card.

(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

I stamped the image from the stamp set in black ink on hot press watercolor paper. I also stamped the same image on a Post-It note to do a shadow study. This helps when it comes to painting the shadows on the image. Then I started watercoloring the image using Distress Inks.

After the image was fully painted, I created a mask for the image using Simon Says Stamp masking paper. Once the mask was in place, I used a blender brush from Picket Fence to blend Chipped Sapphire and Seedless Preserves Distress Inks. I added stars around the bunny with a white Gelly Roll pen.

I used a circle die to cut out the image, and then prepared a lavender card base. For added shimmer on the card, I coated the lavender cardstock with Silver Glitter Dust spray.

The “baby” greeting was die cut four times using the Oh Baby Words dies from Simon, and then stacked and adhered together to create a dimensional greeting. I adhered it to the circle piece using Gina K Connect Glue.

To finish the card, I wrapped a white satin ribbon vertically and tied a bow. I then adhered the circle piece to the card using foam adhesive.

Thanks for stopping by today! :)

What a sweet card! Thanks for the tips about shadows, I struggle with shadows and shading all the time. This idea of the shadow study really helps a lot. Thanks for another lovely card and video.

Delightful card, Kristina. I’m sure it will be a big hit with the prospective parents. I especially like the soft colour blending you did for the background of the little bunny. Super cute image!

Gorgeous! What a lovely baby card. I am so glad you dropped your inkpad because the pale lavender colour is so beautiful with that shimmer and let the circle pop. Love the white ribbon.
Thank you so much for showing your gorgeous card and have a great weekend.
