Dry Palette Marker Watercoloring

Hello, all! So sorry for the lack of videos over the last week. I’m hoping to get back into my usual schedule after the holidays. In the meantime, I’ll be posting when I can. :)

Today’s card features a technique that I’m calling Dry Palette Marker Watercoloring. I first saw this technique when a blog reader, Karen, emailed a YouTube video link to me. Needless to say, I was intrigued and had to try it out!

Dry Palette Marker Watercoloring

The Dry Palette Marker Watercoloring technique involves scribbling color with a water-based marker (like the Tombow markers I used for today’s card) on watercolor paper. Then you use a damp brush to pick up color from the dry swatches of color on the watercolor paper.

The process of picking up color with a damp brush reminded me of using Peerless Watercolors, although Peerless Watercolors are definitely more saturated in color.

The images on today’s card are from Paper Smooches’ Boom Bots stamp set. There’s a cute little robot dog in the stamp set, too!

I hope you enjoy today’s video. Please check out the giveaway below the video and supplies as well.

Watercolor Class Giveaway!

Watercolor for Card Makers: Intermediate Techniques

I am SO excited for this class! Watercolor for Card Makers: Intermediate Techniques is open for registration and I cannot recommend this class highly enough! I’ve been privy to the class content for a while and I can’t wait for you all to see it. Dawn Woleslagle of WPlus9 is an amazing teacher and explains in more detail how watercolor works. What I love about this class is that she breaks down and explains some of the watercolor questions I had floating around in the back of my head. Things like… why do some of my colors seem to settle into the grooves of the watercolor paper and not look smooth?

Anyhow, please check it out! I know you’ll love it! And don’t be intimidated by the word “intermediate” in the title. This is definitely a class for everyone! I think anyone would benefit from seeing Dawn in action and taking inspiration from her work and techniques.
