Holiday Card Series 2016 – Day 16

Morning, all! Today is not only Day 16 of the Holiday Card Series, but I’m taking part in a blog hop for Simon Says Stamp celebrating the multiple releases from this week! Not only was the December Card Kit revealed, but there was the Advent Plus release (with amazing stamps for creating advent calendars), and just yesterday the Limited Edition Holiday Kit was released! I’ll be playing with the holiday kit today. :)

Holiday Card Series 2016 - Day 16

Today’s card came about after I challenged myself to take a few items from the kit and just play for a bit. I thought I would try stenciling some trees using the Tim Holtz Woodland Layering Stencil and then add snow using Texture Paste, and topping it off with Rock Candy glitter.

My first experiment turned out great! I was worried about the Distress Ink would bleed into the Texture Paste, but it didn’t happen at all. Turns out my Texture Paste was on the drier side and that’s probably why it didn’t pull color from the inked trees.

So the next day, I created another tree scene. After a couple hours (when it was completely dry) it looked like it might be okay. That was when I took these photos.

However, overnight the ink bled into the Texture Paste. But only on the tree inked with Peeled Paint. So strange. I’m not sure why only that tree was affected.

Even though my particular method of creating these trees wasn’t fool proof, you could still make scenes like this. I would recommend using either Grit Paste (Tim assures me that it doesn’t pick up color like Texture Paste so would be better for this application) or using a different type of ink (maybe Archival ink) or something that is more permanent.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the video! Be sure to keep scrolling down to see info on the blog hop.

(BTW, I just realized the skinny tree stencil that I had an issue with in the video is actually supposed to be used to add snow! That’s why it looks so sparse. Apparently, I just like to make things more difficult for myself. LOL!)
