Masked Watercolor Heart Cards – Make a Card Monday #270

Happy Monday!

Today I created a couple cards using the new I Love You More stamp set from My Favorite Things. When I saw the sentiments in this stamp set, I just knew that I wanted to use it to create some Valentine’s Day cards for my friends and family. And they’re perfect greetings for hearts, right!?

I used heart die from Simon’s Thank You Heart die set to draw hearts on watercolor paper (elongating one of them so that the longer sentiment stamp fit), and then used liquid masking fluid (the kind I used in this case is Drawing Gum) to mask off the outside of the heart area so that I could watercolor on the inside with Distress Inks.

NOTE: I did try doing a watercolor heart without masking off the outside of the heart. It took a bit longer to paint and the edges were much softer, but it was possible to do it. So if you don’t have masking fluid, try drawing a heart and then when you add the initial water to the paper, just paint the heart area.

I created two versions of the card. One with reds and purples (Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, and Festive Berries), and the other with more of a rainbow color palette (Festive Berries, Squeezed Lemonade, and Salty Ocean)…

I love both versions. :) Which is your favorite?
