Hi all! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved playing with paper dolls. Well, maybe I wouldn’t call what I do now “playing”, but I love the creative process of “dressing up” a paper doll. I remember waiting for my parents to come home from grocery shopping on Saturday nights because they sometimes would bring Barbie paper dolls for me and my sisters. So fun!

So that’s the inspiration behind this Virtual Card Club. :) It’s all about the paper dolls! I think these would make the perfect personalized gift for any girl (or woman!) in your life. You can adapt and decorate the clothing and hair to look like just about anyone! For my card, I made it look like my niece Eliza. (I made a similar paper pieced “doll” for a scrapbook page a while ago)

The PDF for this month’s class is 8 pages long with large photos and step by step instructions (with photos!). I walk you through creating a paper doll, and then incorporate it into a card. You can substitute the supplies I used with whatever you have on hand. And there are LOTS of tips and tricks for putting it together. As I was writing the instructions, I made sure to be pretty detailed so that as your assembling your doll, you can prevent any problems that might arise.

Can I cut out the pieces by hand?

Absolutely! In the step-by-step instructions, I show you how to use removable adhesive to adhere the templates to your patterned paper, trim out the shape, and then assemble the final doll. The last four pages of the PDF have the templates for all the clothing (you can create multiple outfits and combos) for you to cut out by hand, and a page of examples…

What about digital cutting machine files?

For those of you with digital cutters, I added SVG and AI files to the VCC options below. It is the $7 VCC. In the zip file you download after purchase, you get the PDF with by-hand instructions, plus the SVG and AI files.

NOTE: If you’re opening the SVG file in Sure Cuts a Lot, it imports as one big file. If you want to only cut some pieces, I would suggest opening the SVG file in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator and editing the pieces down to just what you want, doing a “save as” with a different name, and then importing your new file into SCAL.

What is Virtual Card Club?

For those of you new to VCC, it’s the way I share my in-real-life card club with all of my blog readers. Not only do you get to follow along with the projects we create by using your own supplies, but it’s a great way to show your support. The money from VCC goes to maintaining the web hosting for this blog. :) For only $5 you get detailed step-by-step instructions and photos, and a complete supply list. All you have to do is break out your supplies and get started!
