Warm vs. Cool Colors + How to Watercolor a Beach Scene

Happy Monday, all! I hope your day was great! Last week I got a comment on a video from a viewer asking for an explanation on warm colors versus cool colors. I thought I’d talk a bit about that in today’s video. Plus, the adorable Summer Friends stamp set from Pretty Pink Posh was just begging for a beach scene, don’t you think? The little girl wearing heart-shaped sunglasses was too cute to resist. :)

(Wondering what I used on this card? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).

I’m by no means an expert on color theory. This is just how I view warm vs. cool colors. I generally mix and match warm and cool colors. But when I really think about only using warmer colors or only using cooler colors, I do find that scenes look that much more cohesive. It’s a great theory to keep in your arsenal and break out every once in a while.

As an example, I painted one card using cooler colors and the other card in warmer colors. I really like both examples. There’s definitely a different mood in each one. Which do you prefer?

Thanks for stopping by today! :)
